ABSTRACT

This study seeks to investigate the factors that influence the number of women leaders
in educational management. This research was carried out in Ho Township where 250
respondents made up of teachers and educational administrators were selected to
complete a questionnaire. The raw data consisted of 18 original factors subjected to
factor analysis to identify new composite factors that can explain factors constraining
womens advancement to educational leadership. At the end six factors were
identified. These are; general self-image factor, general organizational culture,
traditional roles and family obligation factor, specific belief factor, general
educational attainment factor, and bias and discrimination factor. These factors
consequently constrain womens advancement to educational leadership. It is
recommended that the Girl Child Education Unit in all educational directorates should
embark on a more vigorous campaign by organizing regular workshop and seminars
to educate women on the need to further their education.
