1.2 Background of the Study

Information centers were not popularly used in the past compared today because
people rely on what other people may share. People do not make use of written sources to
gain information. Unlike today, almost every site has an information center especially if
people regularly visit a particular venue. Information centers can provide almost anything
that the users want to know.
Having a centralized information center provides a much easier way of gaining or
tracking information centers by providing mapping route for particular place. But as webbased technology is being utilized by different process and approach, mapping became
much more effective due to real time GPS.
The proponents would like to propose Pampanga Catholic Churches Information
Center. The proposed system will have features that can help devotees on how to
eliminate the issues caused by slow tracking of routes, misleading coordinates and
shortcuts. The proposed system will also benefit a lot of people not only the ones in
Pampanga but also the people around the globe that patronizes our own culture when it
comes to celebrating and commemorating religious events.
1.3 Review of Related Literature
This chapter presents the related literature after the thorough and in-depths
research done by the proponents.
1.3.1 Foreign Literature
Google Maps is a Web-based service that provides detailed information about
geographical regions and sites around the world. In addition to conventional road maps,
Google Maps offers aerial and satellite views of many places. In some cities, Google
Maps offers street views comprising photographs taken from vehicles. (Gibilisco,2013)
The Centre, established in Sao Paolo (Brazil), will support Latin America and
Portuguese-speaking African countries with studies on the progress and impact of
building inclusive knowledge societies through information and communication. This
new Centre will become a center of reference for capacity-building, research and

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

networking of specialists in developing countries, said the Ambassador. It will

also contribute to UNESCOs programs to support the creation, access, preservation and
sharing of information and knowledge. (Tavares, 2013)
Live online video-casting is the technology that the growing sphere of
competitive gaming rests upon; therefore, this research examines how this new
technology has influenced the growth and viewership of eSports internationally.
Furthermore, this technology has provided a social outlet for users to become actively
involved within the eSports community. This research sought to analyze how live streams
influence social interaction within the eSports community; focusing on the relationship
between viewers and broadcasters. Lastly, this research explored the reasons why people
actively seek out and tune into live streams (Edge, 2013).
The people of the present generation have grown advanced together with the
innovation of technology, specifically the cellular phone, which is said to have affected
the students spelling and grammar proficiency. People have started sending messages in
abbreviated or shortened form. Students who are frequent texters have developed a new
form of writing that is unacceptable to school-related works He added that students are no
longer practicing the proper use of punctuation, and upper and lowercase letters. (Myhra,
2011)
With such a wide range of uses, GIS has become a powerful tool around the world
for planning and decision-making. Internationally, GIS is one of the fastest growing
industries with more than 170,000 people in the United States currently employed in the
geospatial information industry in government, academic, and commercial sectors
(Breetzke, Eksteen , 2011).
With the gathered information, the related literatures served as a basis for the
proponents to come up with different kinds of features that will help in developing the
study.
1.3.2 Local Literature
I think keeping an eye on how the real estate industry uses spatial technology is
important. Thats because the real estate industry on the cutting edge of using mapping

and location data to serve customers, manage information and analyze trends. Other
industries look to real estate for insight into where location technology will go next.
(Draper, 2011)
There are two major approaches in dealing with auto correlated process data in
process control, that is, residual-based approaches and methods that modify control limits
to adjust for autocorrelation. We proposed a methodology for constructing control charts
for auto correlated process data using the AR-sieve bootstrap. The proposed AR-sieve
bootstrap control chart presents the advantage of being distribution-free for certain class
of linear models as well as the tracking of actual process observations instead of model
residuals, thus facilitating the implementation during actual plant operations.
(Mancenido and Barrios, 2011)
Since 2003, Kyoto University and PHIVOLCS-DOST have been mapping the
Philippine Fault. At present, approximately 90% of on-land-stretch of the PFZ has been
mapped. This delineation is based on interpretation of available large-scale (at least
1:30,000) aerial photographs. The identified surface traces of the PFZ are then plotted
onto 1:50,000 topographic maps published by NAMRIA and compiled using commonly
used Geographic Information System (GIS) platforms such as MapInfo Professional and
Generic Mapping Tool (GMT). These active faults ma ps are now available on this
website and upon request to PHIVOLCS-DOST (Tsutsumi, H. and Perez, J.S., 2013).
Philippine wireless provider Smart Communications (Smart) and Cebu-based
website MyCebu.ph have partnered to deliver information on tourism and heritage sites
to mobile phones and tablets through quick response or QR code scanning. Special
markers were placed on tourism and heritage sites all over Cebu province. Each marker
contains information about the site and a QR code. When scanned, it opens to an article
about the landmark. To access the information, users mast have QR readers on their
smartphones and must be connected to the Internet (eGov Innovation, 2012).
With the gathered information, the related literatures served as a basis for the
proponents to come up with different kinds of features that will help in developing the
study.

1.5 Statement of the Problem

The proponents have conducted series of interviews and researches to different
devotes in Pampanga on how they are tracking the route of different churches.

1.5.1 General Problem

Churches in Pampanga lack a centralized information system which can serve as a
source of information for devotees. Information such as the history of the church and the
regular/special masses are usually unknown to the people or devotees.

1.5.1 Specific Problems

As the proponents conducted their research regarding the information centers in
Pampanga, there are specific problems that the proponents observed through series of
interviews, questionnaires and observations.
A. How effective is the system in terms of:
a. Providing the information of the church?
b. Being able to accurately the church?
c. Generating accurate result in searching information?
d. Reservations regarding different events?
B. How efficient is the system in terms of:
a. Availability of forums to users?
b. Providing a live streaming of mass?
c. Providing weekly schedules of mass?
C. How reliable if the system in terms of:
a. Securing the records/information from unauthorized access?
b. Backing-up files or records?
c. Maintaining current and past records or information?

1.6 Objectives of the Study

In this part of the study, the proponents came up with objectives to solve the
problems.

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

1.6.1 General Objectives

With all the problems cited by the people and devotees who have been
interviewed, the main objective of this study is to design and develop an Information
Center of Churches in Pampanga.

The proponents believed that the proposed website will accomplish the following
goals:
a. The proposed system will provide detailed information about churches in
Pampanga.
b. The proposed system will allow devotees to view information about the churches
any time.

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

c. The proposed system will keep the records of the churches organized.
d. The proposed system will offer an online live streaming of mass.
e. The proposed system will provide the updated weekly mass schedules.

1.8 Significance of the Study

In this part, the proponents will briefly explain the significance of the system.
These are divided into Economic, Educational, Technological and Social Significances.

1.8.1 Economic Significance

The proposed study caters a wide variety of features that will help other churches
around Pampanga to communicate with other churches. The centralized information
center will be more effective with money and time wise because of all the features it can
do.

1.8.2 Educational Significance

The proposed study will be a big help to students and researches who wants to
have the background history of the church, inside and outside pictures of the church and
forums for their feedbacks. It will also serve as a reference for other parts of the
Philippines to share our very own culture regarding our churches.

1.8.3 Technological Significance

The proposed studys significance is similar to the growing use of web based
systems/ applications. This study will also promote the use of this kind of technology and
may serve as a reference for other developers that may develop an information center.

1.8.4 Social Significance

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

The proposed study has the significance with the society because the Information
Center of Churches is focused on the people who are devotees and tourists. Even people
around the globe can benefit from the proposed study because of the history of churches.

1.9 Scope and Delimitations

In this section, the proponents will present the coverage of the study and what it
can or cannot do.
The scope of our study is the making of a centralized information center for
churches around Pampanga. It also covers the design and development of embedded
Google map to locate churches, place reservations for events, live streaming of masses,
updated mass schedules, admin-to-admin chat, ratings of the churches, contact
information of the churches and securing of information and backing up of files and
records.
The limitation of the study is that the website cannot pay online as soon as they
place their reservation for a certain event.

1.10 Operational Definition of Terms

Church Navigation is the way of finding a particular church in a given area.
Live Streaming - transmit or receive live video and audio coverage of (an event) over the
Internet.
Centralized database/information center - is a database that is located, stored, and
maintained in a single location.

Chapter 2
METHODOLOGY
In this part of the section, the proponents will be explaining the procedures and
techniques that will be used to solve the problems and issues that the existing process is
dealing with. In order to resolve the problems, implementing a website will surely make
the process easier.

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

The four purposes of this chapter are to (1) describe the research methodology of
this study, (2) explain the sample selection, (3) describe the procedure used in designing
the instrument and collecting the data, and (4) provide an explanation of the statistical
procedure used to analyze data.

2.1 Type of Research

On the development of this proposed system, the proponents use some methods to
gather information regarding the concern of the people who are interviewed.

2.1.1 Descriptive Research

Descriptive researches have more guidelines than other types. The question asked
by the proponents to the respondents will determine the appropriate action needed to be
done to complete the system. This type of research is determined by the population based
on the datas that are collected. Data form descriptive research may be qualitative or
quantitative. It can involve collections of quantitative information that can be tabulated
along a continuum in numerical form, such as scores on a test or the number of times a
person chooses to use a-certain feature of a multimedia program, or it can describe
categories of information such as gender or patterns of interaction when using technology
in a group situation.
In this descriptive method, the proponents will use quantitative type of research.
The proponents gathered data and information through observing the daily transactions
that takes place inside the office of different churches and used the result as a basis for
the different kinds of features for the proposed system.

2.2 Respondents of the Study

The main respondents of this study are the devotees from different places. There
are currently known 90 parish churches in Pampanga. The proponents visited 67
churches. From these 67 churches, the main respondents were the some secreraties and
devotees of different towns. The proponents also included 100 devotees to be part of this
study.

10

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

2.3 Sampling Techniques and Procedures

In statistics and survey methodology, sampling is concerned with the selection of
a subset of individuals from within a statistical population to estimate characteristics of
the whole population. The three main advantages of sampling are that the cost is lower,
data collection is faster, and the accuracy and quality of the data can be easily improved.

2.3.1 Random Sampling

In this technique, each member of the population has an equal chance of being
selected as subject. The entire process of sampling is done in a single step with each
subject selected independently of the other members of the population.
The proponents used random sampling technique in order to gather the
information from their chosen respondents. By travelling from different towns, the
proponents gave out questionnaires to random people in order to come up with solutions.

2.4 Research Instruments

Research Instruments are measurement tools (for example, questionnaires or
scales) designed to obtain data on a topic of interest from research subjects.
The proponents will use different kinds of research instruments which help in
gathering reliable and accurate information. The results of the instruments use will be the
basis in revising or making changes in the existing system.

2.4.1 Interview
Interviews are one way to gather data for research. The data gathered are usually,
though not always, qualitative in nature. Interviews are usually used to explore a topic or
topics in considerable depth with a few people. They are not, in general, very useful for
Eliciting answers to straightforward questions from large numbers of people, when a
questionnaire may be more useful.

11

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

The proponents interviewed some secretaries and devotees to distinguish all the
problems and issues regarding the old and existing system. The proponents found out that
the main issue of the existing process is that they have to personally go to the church in
order to place their query and other matters. All the information gathered from the
interview will be the basis of the proponents in developing the proposed system.

2.4.2 Observation
To gain all the necessary information needed for the research, the proponents
conducted an interview with the local diocese. The proponents observed the day-today transactions in the office and how they deal with different queries. The proponents
then formulated the development of the proposed system.

2.4.3 Questionnaires
A questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a series of questions and
other prompts for the purpose of gathering information from respondents.
The proponents had done their respective questionnaire in accordance with the
problems stated from the previous chapter in order to acquire the needed data and
information that will be considered as the solutions which will be able to answer the
shortcomings of the existing system.
The questionnaires were randomly disseminated to the devotees around
Pampanga. The proponents decided to use this instrument to gather the respondents side
to measure their approach in the study.

2.4.4 Library Research

A library is a collection of sources of information and similar resources, made
accessible to a defined community for reference or borrowing. It provides physical or
digital access to material, and may be a physical building or room, or a virtual space, or
both.

12

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

The proponents went to the library of Holy Angel University last December 2015
to do some research regarding related studies. After gathering information and data, the
proponents matched some of the related studies to form a much better study.

2.4.5 Internet Research

On the web, you can find information about any topic you desire. The World Wide
Web is a huge database of user-submitted contents where you can access an astronomical
number of informative sources, online groups and multi-media.
The proponents surfed the World Wide Web to further gain knowledge regarding
the research. Being able to properly utilize the web is a big help to come up with different
kind of features for the study.

2.5 Methods Used in Developing the System

In consideration of developing a system that will satisfy its users needs and to
work to its fullest ability, different methodologies were use. These methods will also
serve as a guide to offer solutions to all of the known problems within the system.
The proponents use the method System Development life cycle(SDLC) which
consists of the following: (1) Planning Phase, (2) Analysis Phase, (3) Design Phase, (4)
Implementation Phase, (5) Operational and Support Phase in developing the proposed
system.

2.5.1 Planning Phase

The planning phase is the most important part when creating a project or a system.
In this phase, the team defines the solution in detail what to build, how to build it, who
will build it, and when it will be built. During this phase the team works through the
design process to create the solution architecture and design, writes the functional
specification, and prepares work plans, cost estimates, and schedules for the various
deliverables.
The proponents formed a set of plans as a guide through the execution and
conclusion of the project. Also, the proponents made an actual observation to determine

13

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

the problems, the strengths and weaknesses of posting of announcements in a bulletin

board, the benefits that the proposed system can bring and the users that will benefit from
the proposed system. The proponents also estimated the time and cost of the study.

2.5.2 Analysis Phase

The analysis phase defines the requirements of the system, independent of how
these requirements will be accomplished. The Analysis Phase is where you break down the
deliverables in the high-level Project Charter into the more detailed business requirements.
The analysis phase is also the part of the project where you identify the overall direction
that the project will take through the creation of the project strategy documents.
In this phase, the proponents had filtered each of the plans made in the previous phase
into more complexes, consistent and approved requirement. The proponents found out
that the features of the proposed system will benefit both parties.

2.5.3 Design Phase

The design phase seeks to develop detailed specifications that emphasize the
physical solution to the user's information technology needs. The system requirements
and logical description of the entities, relationships, and attributes of the data that were
documented during the Requirements Analysis Phase are further refined and allocated
into system and database design specifications that are organized in a way suitable for
implementation within the constraints of a physical environment (e.g., computer,
database, facilities).
In this phase, the proponents designed the system to satisfy all the needs of the
proposed system such as its design, layout, initial and final entity relation diagram, to
serve as basis for the database. They came up with the one page design of the interface
because it is much easier to search and is user-friendly.

2.5.4 Implementation Phase

The project takes shape during the implementation phase. This phase involves
the construction of the actual project result. Programmers are occupied with encoding,
designers are involved in developing graphic material, contractors are building, and the

14

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

actual reorganization takes place. It is during this phase that the project becomes visible
to outsiders, to whom it may appear that the project has just begun. The implementation
phase is the doing phase, and it is important to maintain the momentum.
The proponents are responsible with the code of the system and its
design/graphical interface. The system is to run to ensure that it is trouble-free and errorfree. This enables the proponents to revise the system when necessary. It is imperative to
know the problem of the system before it is finally signed over to user. A series of test
can pinpoint the problems in order to lessen the errors in the system. During the testing
phase, the live streaming mass was not fully viewable because of the compatibility of the
camera. The beta test was done by few selected people from other towns. The feedback
was that they were able to use the website as a reference and it was easy to use.

2.5.5 Operation and Support Phase

The Operations and Support (O&S) Phase is where a system is used and
supported by users in the field. The main focus on this phase is the execution of a
support system that sustains the system in the most cost effective manner possible. The
second main focus of this phase is the disposal of a system when it has reached its useful
life.
The proponents and the administrator of the website ensures the maintenance of
the system by monitoring it daily. All-out support from the personnel or any technical
team is necessary to ensure the maintenance of the system and avoid possible damage.
The testing phase popped up a bug with the live streaming, the proponents solved the
issue regarding the compatibility of the camera by using the correct software and device.

2.6 Methods Used for Product Evaluation

2.6.1 Economic Feasibility
Economic feasibility is the cost and logistical outlook for a business project or
endeavor. Prior to embarking on a new venture, most businesses conduct an economic
feasibility study, which is a study that analyzes data to determine whether the cost of the
prospective new venture will ultimately be profitable to the company.

15

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

Through the analysis of the proponents, the proposed system will be economically
feasible because it is not cost effective and the benefits are higher than the cost. It will
also save time and effort. The churches will gain in the latter years because the proposed
study will be much broader and the centralized information center will not only be in the
boundaries of Pampanga but around the Philippines.
2.6.2 Operational Feasibility
Operational feasibility refers to the measure of solving problems with the help
of a new proposed system. It helps in taking advantage of the opportunities and fulfills
the requirements as identified during the development of the project. It takes care that the
management and the users support the project.
Through the analysis of the proponents, the proposed system will probably
provide timely accurate and reliable information.
2.6.3 Technical Feasibility
Technical feasibility study is the complete study of the project in terms of input,
processes, output, fields, programs and procedures. It is a very effective tool for long
term planning and trouble shooting. The technical feasibility study should most
essentially support the financial information of an organization.
Through the analysis of the proponents, the proposed system will be feasible
within the limits of the current technology. The proposed system is practical proposition
because it limits the timed consumed by both people and the secretaries of the churches
because of the proposed system.

2.7 Analysis of Data

The process of evaluating data using analytical and logical reasoning to examine
each component of the data provided. This form of analysis is just one of the many steps
that must be completed when conducting a research experiment.

2.8 Statistical Treatment of Data

16

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

Statistical treatment of data is essential in order to make use of the data in the right form.
Raw data collection is only one aspect of any experiment; the organization of data is
equally important so that appropriate conclusions can be drawn. This is what statistical
treatment of data is all about.
The proponents used the following formulas in computing the Weighted Mean
and the Frequency Distribution.
WM =

3.3 Data Flow Diagram (DFD)

Data flow diagram (DFD) is a graphical representation of the "flow" of data
through an information system, modeling its process aspects. A DFD is often used as a
preliminary step to create an overview of the system, which can later be elaborated.
DFDs can also be used for the visualization of data processing structured design.

3.7 System Architecture

33

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

A system architecture or systems architecture is the conceptual model that defines

the structure, behavior, and more views of a system. An architecture description is a
formal description and representation of a system, organized in a way that supports
reasoning about the structures and behaviors of the system

Figure 3.7.1 System Architecture of the Proposed System shows that all the datas are
stored in the Database and the website is uploaded in the Web Server that is moderated by
the Super Admin and can be accessed by the Admin and User.

Chapter 4
SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
This chapter contains the summary of the data gathered, the conclusions that the
researchers have made base on the collected data and recommendations.

4.1 Summary
The Pampanga Catholic Churches Information Center aims to provide the
province of Pampanga a centralized information center. Focusing on the history and
galleries of the churches, the website also comes with unique features like live streaming,
reservation, chat, weekly schedules and church navigation.
The proponents conducted a survey with 30 respondents for the existing study and
100 respondents for the proposed study to provide assessments in terms of effectivity,
efficiency and reliability.
Summary of the findings are as follows:
1. The evaluation of the respondents on the effectiveness of the proposed process
in the system was effective than the effectiveness of the existing process. It
means that the proposed system satisfied the respondents with the new process
in achieving desired results
2. The evaluation of the respondents on the efficiency of the proposed process in
the system was efficient than the efficiency of the existing process. It means
that the proposed system met the amount of time consumed in carrying out the
task or processes or producing a result.
3. The evaluation of the respondents on the reliability of the proposed process in
the system was reliable than the reliability of the existing process. It means
that the proposed system satisfied the expectation of the respondents with the
means of dependability, security, maintainability, and constancy of the
information yielded.

4.2 Conclusion

35

DON HONORIO VENTURA TECHNOLOGICAL STATE UNIVERSITY

Relying on manual mapping and searching for different sources of information

may cause issues on efficiency and reliability of the existing process. That is why having
a centralized database for all the churches in the province of Pampanga will surely make
the information and navigation more reliable. Additionally, other features of the system
will make the website much more appealing to the users.

4.3 Recommendations
The proponents highly recommend the Pampanga Catholic Churches Information
Center to be implemented in order to help our fellow cabalens and other people from
other places that wants to know any particular history of any church in Pampanga. It will
also serve as navigation for the devotees who annually practice the VisitaIglesia on
Maundy Thursday.
For future developments, the proponents would like to recommend the following:
