AssistanceDuring200910
TheAllIndiaCouncilforTechnicalEducation(AICTE)isastatutorybodyestablishedbythe
Governmentof India throughAct No.52 of 1987, for proper planningand coordinated
developmentofTechnicalEducationSystemthroughoutthecountry,promotionofqualitative
improvementof TechnicalEducation in relationto plannedquantitativegrowth,regulation
andpropermaintenanceofnormsandstandardsintheTechnicalEducationsystemandfor
mattersconnectedtherewith.
TechnicalEducationincludesthefieldsofEngineering&Technology,Architecture,Town&CountryPlanning,Management,Pharmacy,Hotel
Management&CateringTechnologyandAppliedArts&Crafts.
Proposals/applicationsareinvitedunderthefollowingResearch&InstitutionalDevelopment(RID)schemesofAICTE:
1.ResearchPromotionSchemepromotesresearchinidentifiedthrustareasofresearchinTechnicalEducationincludingtechnologyfor
physicallychallenged,disastermanagementetc.Fundingundertheschemeis limitedtoRs.1020Lakhsdependinguponthetypeof
researchproposed.Thedurationoftheprojectis23years.
2.Nationally Coordinated Project (NCP) promotes integrated R&D on themes of National / Social significance, involving
networking/collaborationamongstseveralinstitutionsandindustryuserorganizations.FundingundertheschemeislimitedtoRs.3040
LakhsforprojectsofnationalimportanceandRs.510Lakhsforprojectsondevelopmentoftechnicaleducation.
3.National Facilities in Engineering & Technology with Industrial Collaboration (NAFETIC) aims at establishmentof National
FacilitiesinfrontierareasofEngineeringandTechnologyincollaborationwithindustryfordesign,instrumentation,testing,manufacturing
etc.TheparticipatingindustryforestablishmentofNationalFacilityisrequiredtocontributeaminimumof50%oftheestimatedcostof
projectandtheCouncilwillprovidethebalanceofcost(maximumupto50%ofestimatedprojectcost).Maximumlimitofgrantinaid
undertheschemeisRs.50Lakhsforaperiodofthreeyears.
4.Modernization andRemovalofObsolescence inTechnicalEducation(MODROBS)aimsatequippingtechnicalinstitutionswith
modern infrastructural/ laboratory/ workshop / computing facilities to enhancetheir teaching, training and research capabilities.
MaximumlimitofgrantinaidundertheschemeisRs.15Lakhsforaperiodof12years.
5.IndustryInstitutePartnershipCell(IIPC)SchemeprovidesforsettingupofanIIPCellinatechnicalinstitutionasfocalpointforbetter
interactionbetweentheacademiaandindustry.ThemaximumlimitofgrantinaidisRs.5.0Lakhsasonetimenonrecurringgrantand
Rs.5.0Lakhsasrecurringgrantforamaximumperiodof5yearssubjecttosatisfactoryperformance.
6.EntrepreneurshipDevelopmentCell(EDC)aimsatinstitutionalizingmechanisms,whichcouldactassupportsystemfortechnocrat
entrepreneurs. The Entrepreneurship Development Cell set up under the scheme is expected to act as a tool to promote
entrepreneurshipandselfemploymentamongsttechnicalstudentsasanattractiveandviablecareeroption.Themaximumlimitofgrant
inaidisRs.4.0lakhsasonetimenonrecurringgrantandRs.4.0Lakhsasrecurringgrantforamaximumperiodof5yearssubjectto
satisfactoryperformance.
7.PGScholarshipScheme:InpursuanceofthePolicyFrameworkforPromotionofPostGraduateEducationandResearchinTechnical
EducationasannouncedbyMinistryofHumanResourceDevelopment,AICTEisimplementingandrunningPGScholarshipschemein
variousfieldsoftechnicaleducation.A validGATEscoreris eligibleforscholarshipamount@Rs.8000/(allinclusive)permonthON
MERITprovidedhe/shegetsadmissioninAICTEapprovedPGprogrammesinatechnicalinstitution.

8.TravelGrantenablesmeritoriousteacherstopresentpapersandinteractatinternationalconference/seminar/
symposiumetc.AICTEprovidesfullairfare,registrationfeeandperdiemallowance.
9.Seminar Grant provides financial assistance for organizing national / internationalseminar / workshop /
symposium/ conferencein areas concerningtechnicaleducation.Itprovides opportunityfor interactionand
sharingofinformationandstateoftheartknowledge.
10.Staff Development Programme (SDP) facilitates upgraduation of knowledge and skills of faculties in
technicalinstitutions. Italso provides opportunitiesof inductiontrainingfor teachers.Each programme is of
maximumtwoweeks durationwithmaximum50 participants.TheCouncilprovidesmaximumgrantinaidof
Rs.7000/perparticipantsperweek.
11.Emeritus Fellowship utilizes services of highly qualified and experienced superannuatedProfessors of
technical institutions/universitydepartments to stimulate research activities and to provide mentoring and
guidance to facultiesas wellas institutions.Thefellowshipcarries an honorariumof Rs.20,000/p.m. and
contingentgrantsofRs.50,000/p.a.Thedurationofthefellowshipistwoyears.
12.CareerAward forYoung Teachersidentifiesyoungtalentedteacherswhohaveestablishedcompetencein
emergingareas / disciplines of technicaleducation.Theschemehelpsthemin promotingtheirprofessional
growthbyenablingthemtodevotemaximumtimeinresearchandstudywithminimumteachingresponsibilities.
13.NationalDoctoralFellowship(NDF):FiftyDoctoralFellowshipsareofferedtoselectedresearchscholarsto
enable them to pursue doctoral programme in existing and emerging fields of technical education. The
fellowshipcarriesascholarshipofRs.18,000/p.mandcontingencyofRs.25.000/p.aforthreeyears.Allthose
researchscholarswhohaveregistered for Ph.D in theselect identified institutions(enlistedin thescheme
booklet)during01/10/2008to31/07/2009areeligibletoapply.
14.VisitingProfessorshipSchemeisaimedatsupplementingandprovidingexpertiseinthoseareasofteaching
/researchinwhichhostinstitutionsdonothaveexpertise.CandidatesholdingthepostofProfessorsshallbe
consideredforappointmentasVisitingProfessors.SuitablehonorariumispaidtotheVisitingProfessor.
15.FinancialAssistancetoProfessionalSocieties/Bodies Schemeprovideslimitednonrecurringfinancial
supporttoselectedtechnicalprofessionalbodies/societiesandenablesthemtomakeusefulcontributiontothe
developmentoftechnicaleducationintheirrespectiveprofessionaldomain.Inadditiontotheaboveschemes,
theRIDBureauofAICTEimplementsthefollowingschemesforFacultyandInstitutionalDevelopment,forwhichapplicationsareinvited
separately.
16.AICTEINAEDistinguished VisitingProfessorship:AICTEandIndianNationalAcademyofEngineers(INAE)havejointlyinitiated
thisscheme.HighlyexperiencedtechnicalprofessionalsfromIndustryvisittechnicalinstitutesforshortdurationstodeliverlectures/talks
forthebenefitofstudentsandfacultymembers.Theyalsohelpinimprovingcurriculumdesignandinformulatingandguidingprojectsfor
studentsfaculty.
17.QualityImprovementProgramme (QIP) provides opportunityforupgradationofqualificationsofregularfacultymembersofAICTE
approvedtechnicalinstitutionsbothatDegree andDiploma levelbywayoffacilitatingadmissionstoM.Tech& Ph.Dprogrammesin
selectedpremiertechnicalinstitutionsinthecountry.Theschemealsoprovidesscopeforenhancementofexpertise,andcapabilitiesof
facultymembersthroughShortTermCourses.CurriculumdevelopmentactivitiesarealsoconductedunderQIP.Fulldetailsofschemes
includingschemebooklets,eligibilitycriteria,prescribedformatsforsubmissionofproposals/applicationsandotherspecificconditions
ofeachschemeareavailableontheAICTE
