NOTE:
To pass the unit, you must complete this assignment and submit by the due
date, and on time. For further details, refer to the unit outline.
Late assignments will not be accepted.
There is NO provision for submitting CAD drawings for this assignment.

This is an individual, not a group assignment. This is to be done on your
own. Do not share/discuss your work with other students.

1.
DRAWING REQUIREMENTS
Note:
No border is required if you are using a graph paper. Use the grid area as your drawing
frame.
It is essential to define your drawing area by drawing border lines if you are using plain
sheets. Drawing frame sizes for different sheets (e.g. A4, A3, A2, etc.) are given in the
lecture notes.
b) The specified views must be drawn using THIRD ANGLE projection system*.
FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE GIVEN PROJECTION SYSTEM WILL
ATTRACT ZERO MARK. For information on the placement of orthographic views, refer
to the lecture notes on orthographic projection.
c) Drawing elements, including the title block, shall conform to the specifications
given in the lecture notes or Australian drawing standards.
d) Centre the required views within the work area. Views shall not be placed too close
to the borders (there must be a reasonable space between views and borders).
e) Label the views appropriately. Unlabelled views will not be considered for marking.
f) Fully dimension the views. The dimensioning elements and spacing between
dimensions shall conform to Australian drawing standards.
g) Create one drawing per drawing sheet (i.e. all views of the same object must be on
the same page).
h) Provide a title block, indication of projection system, and the relevant information
on each drawing. Identify every drawing by listing its title and drawing identification
number.
i) All the given information shall be indicated on the drawings. Use the object name as the
drawing title and part number as the drawing identification number.
j) All drawings must be drawn on a standard SCALE. If required, you can change the
given SCALE. In that case, the selected SCALE must be a standard SCALE, as
specified in Australian drawing standards. For a list of standard SCALE ratios,
refer to the lecture notes. Provide details of any changes on a separate A4 page.
It is recommended by AS1100.101 that only the third angle method of orthogonal projection be used.

k) Use a drawing sheet size, which is appropriate to your drawing - consider the
object dimensions, the drawing SCALE, the space between views and, margins you
want to leave.
l) Any construction / projection lines must be removed before submitting the
drawings.
m) Provide details of assumptions and/or explanations, if any, on a separate page.
2.
For this assignment, line weights on drawings need not be in strict adherence to the
specifications given in the lecture notes. However, different line types on your
drawings must be in a close proximity to their definitions.
Note that object lines and extension lines shall not have the same thickness.
Furthermore, extension lines, dimension lines, and centrelines cannot be thicker than
the object lines. Similarly, centrelines cannot be used as dimension lines, and they
should not appear as hidden lines.
3.
DIMENSIONING OF VIEWS
a. The dimensions, as shown in the given figures, are enough to provide complete
size description of the given objects.
b. Correctly indicating the given dimensions on orthographic views would fulfil the
dimensioning requirements for this assignment. All of the given sizes must appear
on your drawings. For rules and guidelines, refer to lecture notes on dimensioning.
c. ONLY THE GIVEN DIMENSIONS SHALL BE INDICATED ON YOUR
DRAWINGS. DO NOT DERIVE YOUR OWN DIMENSIONS. ADDING
UNNECESSARY (REDUNDANT) DIMENSIONS IS NOT ALLOWED.

ASSUMING SIZES
Carefully review the given sizes. You dont need to assume any sizes. If not sure,
get it clarified.
If depth is not shown, it will be a through hole.

6.
REPORT REQUIREMENTS
report on Blackboard.
7. The report shall be organised in the following order:
- Official cover sheet
- Assessment and Feedback Specification
- Title page
- Table of contents,
- Explanations / assumptions, if any.
- Drawings in order (D1 and D2).
8. SINGLE-SIDE printing.
9. DO NOT USE folders or plastic sleeves.
10. The report shall contain no handwritten pages except the manual drawings.

MARKING
To get any marks for your drawings, the line types, projection system, and drawing
scale must be correct. Incorrect use of any of these items will lead to a zero mark.
Indicating correct and complete dimensions is essential to get more than 25%
marks. The drawings shall demonstrate correct understanding and application of
good dimensioning practices.
To gain more than 5/10 for this assignment, besides being correct, the drawings
must be complete in all aspects, neat and, professionally presented.
A drawing, which includes all views of an object, will attract no marks if it contains
too many errors.
Each drawing shall be assessed independently.
8.
By default, the late assessments are treated as "NOT SUBMITTED." Under special
circumstances, such as medical emergency or bereavement, students may apply with
supporting evidence for a waiver of this default late penalty. The request for an
extension will be reviewed for approval by the unit coordinator or Head of
Department. Such applications are to be lodged BEFORE the original assessment due
date using the assessment extension request form. A request submitted without the
extension request form will not be considered.
