General considerations
Mark positively.
Long and short answers
Short answers: any answers below 200 words are short. They will be self-penalising on both grids,
so assess at face value.
Long answers: stop marking at the end of the first sense group after 220 words. Use LENGTH
annotation.
A word is defined roughly as a group of connected letters with a space at either end. Hence: Elle
a = 2 words. Elle a fait = 3 words. Elle na pas fait = 4 words.
Elle ne sest pas leve = 5 words.
Count words as they are written by the candidate, eg elle ne a pas fait = 5, parceque = 1.
Treat il y a/il y avait, and any figures, as 1 word. Count proper nouns as one word, eg names of s
schools, le ministre de lducation
Addressing the bullet points
1. Partially addressed if construed as qui rather than ce qui t.c. (but could be developed
appropriately). Past tense and personalisation required for full.
2.Chez soi demands a general response, not a personal response (prs de chez moi). To be
addressed in full the point needs in total at least two ideas (for and/or against).
3. Personal opinion sought here, and some development needed. French interpretation of private
education is OK, as is ref to eg faith schools, not necessarily fee-paying schools.
4. Conditional idea needed, though not necessarily conditional tense. Merely raising a fault
without suggesting an improvement = partial.
Withhold 1 mark if not obviously a letter. (Salutaton or valediction suffices, eg Bonjour tc)
Ignore register.

Discrete elements
Where two or more marks are available, we try to award the individual marks discretely. This
means that 1 mark is available in a 2 mark part, not just 0 or 2. If there are 2 elements offered and
one is correct and the other not ( I can exemplify this at the meeting), the correct element scores,
only if the incorrect element is plausible within context, and does not vitiate.
With Q8, we read to the end of the sense group, which may not be the end of the sentence, after
220 words is reached.
Mis-spellings
Are tolerated in essential parts of the answer, as long as they are not ambiguous or in the wrong
language. Hence a mis-spelling which forms another French word is ambiguous and rejected.
All existent verb forms are tolerated, including infinitives, unless a specific tense is required.
Where a past participle is acting as an adjective, a verbal form is not accepted, as it is the wrong
part of speech.
Sequential error.
Where an error is made, and repeated, credit is withheld once only. If an error is made, but a
different error made each time, credit is withheld each time.
Crossed out work which is legibile and where no alternative is offered, is to be marked.

De nouveaux tests pour liminer la consommation de drogue au volant vont tre utiliss par la

Cette exprience sera ralise dans dix villes et trois rgions franaises. Si cette exprience
russit, ces tests seront gnraliss dans tout le pays.
On peut dj savoir si quelquun sest drogu en faisant une analyse durine, mais cela est
compliqu : il faut un camion de police et un mdecin. Les nouveaux tests permettront de
contrler un conducteur en trois minutes. Si le test montre que le conducteur a consomm de la
drogue, il faudra lui faire une prise de sang pour confirmer le rsultat.

Dans ce passage, il sagit de limpact du rchauffement de la plante sur les cultivateurs et les
viticulteurs.
Interviewer : Les cultivateurs constatent dj le rchauffement climatique. Il fait plus doux en
automne, prs de trois degrs de plus par rapport aux tempratures habituelles. Cette douceur
acclre la croissance des plantes. En trente ans la rcolte des pommes a avanc dune dizaine
de jours.
Une autre consquence du rchauffement, cest que les scheresses se multiplient. Un leveur
ma expliqu quil est oblig de nourrir ses vaches en t avec ce quil rserve normalement
pour lhiver.
Il y a aussi des consquences importantes pour les viticulteurs.
Viticulteur : Les vendanges se font plus tt. En Bourgogne, les
vendanges ont t avances de quinze jours et, si le rchauffement sacclre, il faudra enlever
les vignes pour les replanter avec des raisins qui rsistent mieux la scheresse. Nous proposons
darroser les vignes. Aujourdhui cest interdit mais la rglementation va peut-tre voluer avec
le climat. Et comme on va manquer deau de plus en plus, il faudra arroser avec modration. a
cotera plus cher et le prix de notre vin galement.
Interviewer : Mais le rchauffement peut aussi aider les agriculteurs. Laugmentation du gaz
carbonique dans latmosphre fait pousser les plantes plus vite. Les chercheurs estiment que la
production de crales pourrait augmenter grce leffet de serre. Donc ce serait plutt
bnfique condition darroser de faon raisonnable pour grer ce manque deau. Les terres
seront donc plus riches sil ny a pas trop de scheresse. Les experts scientifiques travaillent
pour dvelopper des plantes qui rsistent mieux au manque deau et la chaleur.
