Activities

Description
The children have been noticing the changes
that spring has brought about (snow melting,
bugs and birds everywhere!). In result this week
was focused on insects.
1. Spring Time Bingo: This group session started
off with a reading from The Grouchy Ladybug by
Eric Carle followed by discussion on the
changes spring has brought. The children were
very excited to see that the snow had melted,
no more snow pants! After the discussion, the
children were given a 4x5 bingo sheet filled
with capital letters. Then they were shown a
picture of a spring symbol (sun flower,
caterpillar, nestetc.) and asked to come up
with the letter it started with. Once the right
letter was said the children got to find the letter
on their bingo sheet and cover it up with a
special gem. Many of the children challenged
themselves by counting the number of gems
they used.
2. Carpet Area: This group session started off with
a felt board activity based on The Very Hungry
Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Next, the children
were asked the Question of the week, Have
you ever played in the rain? The majority said
yes! When doing Name That Child the
children found out that Madelyns favorite food
is chicken fingers and Rachels is popcorn.
Afterwards, a Clifford magazine dealing with
ants was read through and discussed. The
children were amazed to learn how strong ants
are! Finally, the children ended small group by
writing their names on a half piece of paper,
cutting the paper in three sections, and playing
a name swapping game.
