Heather worked closely in collaboration with her site supervisor to plan comprehensive
theme based lesson plans which were based on state-adopted academic content standards.
Through daily and weekly assignment which followed short and long term learning goals,
students were observed mastering their individual achievement levels.

Heather was observed interpreting assessment results throughout instruction and making
necessary adjustment to ensure a high level of understanding and comprehensive of the
lesson objective. During each lesson, Heather monitored student work at key points
during instruction to check for adequate progress.

Heather explained clearly and imaginatively the day's objective using colorful
presentations, manipulatives, models, the arts, diagrams, and technology. She
thoughtfully organized her lessons to ensure all students were challenged and supported

Heather demonstrated a high level of creativity when designing lesson activities for the
students. She assessed students' language abilities, content knowledge and skill, using
both formal methods and interpersonal interactions with all students. Each lesson
provided a high level of differentiation to meet the needs of the non-English speaking
student; fully engaging her in all activities and assignments.

Evidence:
Heather used reflection of the prior lesson and consultation with her site supervisor to
adjust instructional time to optimize learning opportunities and outcomes for her students.
Students were expected to be respectful and focused during the lesson and could see these
rules posted on the classroom wall. Heather held the students responsible to self-monitor
their behavior and when necessary she would say "flat tire" and the students would
"shhhhhh." Students responded quickly with little wasted instructional time.

Evidence:
Heather continually worked as a team member within the department and with her
colleagues at National University. She was a positive mentor for other student teachers;
sharing her experience and creativity and ideas at the weekly seminars. She consistently
evaluated her own teaching practices and subject matter knowledge and solicited
feedback from the site and University supervisors. Heather demonstrated a high level of
professional skills in working closely with the students, parents, staff, and site supervisor.
