Mount Etna Volcano

Mount Etna is the most active volcano in Europe on the east coast of Sicily. The
highest elevation is about 11,000 feet or 3350 meters, depending on the most recent
eruption. This volcano looks very flat and long. This type of volcano is called a
stratovolcano and is still very active. Mount Etna is located along the subduction
zone of the African Plate under the Eurasian plate.

This volcano last erupted in December 3rd, 2015. The eruption from 2001 caused $3.1
million in damaged and killed about 1500 people. This volcano is important because
of its exceptional amount of activity and scientific importance. In 1669 Mount Etna
erupted killing over 20,000 people and ruined thousands more homes. In a vain
attempt to save their city victims chose to stay rather than flee. The lava traveled 18
miles to Catania and south along the sea. Though it seems odd to live near an active
volcano the soil is very fertile so many farmers nested their homes close and planted
crops.

This volcano has effected people near it by destroying their homes and killing
anyone who was there during the times of eruptions, which last about 2 weeks off
and on. Mount Etna has the longest record of eruptions even though 460 square
miles are covered with snow. This volcano is around 300,000 years old. The lava on
the side of it is very old and resembles the terrain of Mars. This is one of the most
popular tourist destinations in Sicily.

I also used an outline format that was an online document. I would attach it but I
have no idea how.
