people or events celebrated.

Learning Objectives:

Students will be able to identify how people celebrate the holiday


season around the world.
Students will be able to describe the diverse customs in which different
cultures celebrate the holidays.
Essential Questions:

1. How can I show that I know how people celebrate the holidays around the
world?
2. How are holidays celebrated in other cultures?
Performance Tasks:
1: After group discussion about how we celebrate the holiday season as well as how
other cultures celebrate students will listen to the teacher read a book about
Celebrations Around the World. The teacher will assist students with creating a Venn
Diagram comparing how different cultures celebrate the holidays.

2: Students will review what they know about celebrations around the world.
Students will listen to the teacher read a story about Hanukah. After listening to the
story students will use construction paper and paint create their own Menorahs.
3: Students will discuss different cultures and how they celebrate the holidays. After
listening to a story about the Poinsetta, students will create a flower of their own for
a holiday and come up with a story about their flower.
4: Students will wrap up this unit by watching a video about Celebrations Around
the World.
Assessment:
Students will be assessed on how well they participate in class discussions.
Students will also be assessed on how well they complete each activity associated
with each given task.
