Game Title: The Number Crunchers: 6th Grade Number Operations Practice
Tool/Website Used for Game Development: www.reviewgamezone.com
Group Members: Elizabeth Mundy, Elisa Diaz, Aaron Knapic
Grade Level: 6
Subject Area: Math
Educational Standards:
6. NS. 1 Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to
divide fractions by fractions.
6.NS.2 Fluently divide multi-digit whole numbers using a standard algorithmic approach.
6.NS.3 Fluently add, subtract, multiply and divide multi-digit decimal numbers using a
standard algorithmic approach.
6.NS.4 Find common factors and multiples using two whole numbers. a. Compute the
greatest common factor (GCF) of two numbers both less than or equal to 100. b.
Compute the least common multiple (LCM) of two numbers both less than or equal to 12.
c. Express sums of two whole numbers, each less than or equal to 100, using the
distributive property to factor out a common factor of the original addends.
6.NS.5 Understand that the positive and negative representations of a number are
opposites in direction and value. Use integers to represent quantities in real-world
situations and explain the meaning of zero in each situation.
8. Introduction of the game:
Gameplay:
i. This game scaffolds the student to flow between difficulty levels based on their
performance.
ii. Student will show mastery and progress of the number system standards through
scaffolded questions, levels and gameplay.
Navigation:
i. Students can choose their own format or game to play which will present 10 out
of 20 possible questions that are randomly selected.
ii. In order to advance in the game, students must be able to answer the questions
within a timeframe.
iii. Students will then choose the next game code to move to the next level.
iv. There are a limits on tries within a round, but no limits on the amount of
gameplay.
Educational Content: (See standards)
Blooms Taxonomy, Educational Strategies:
i. At the end of gameplay, the student will be able to:
1. Evaluate problems in order to:

a. Fluently divide multi-digit whole numbers using a standard

algorithmic approach.
b. Fluently add, subtract, multiply and divide multi-digit decimal
numbers using a standard algorithmic approach.
c. Be able to find common factors and multiples using two whole
numbers.
d. Understand that the positive and negative representations of a
number are opposites in direction and value.
2. Analyze word problems to:
a. Use integers to represent quantities in real-world situations
3. Synthesize their learning of all standards to progress to higher game
levels
4. Extend their understanding of the number line to include all rational
numbers and apply this concept to the coordinate plane.
Differentiation of Instruction:
i. The game will have 3 levels: Approaching (easy), Met (medium), and Exemplary
(difficult).
1. In the approaching level, students will answer questions based off of
standards: 6.NS.1, 6.NS.2, 6.NS.4, 6.NS.5
2. In the met level, students will answer questions based of off the
standards: 6.NS.3, 6.NS.4 at a higher difficulty level.
3. In the exemplary level, students will answer questions based off of
standards: 6.NS.3, 6.NS.4, 6.NS.5 that are extensions of the grade-level
standards.
Teacher Interface:
i. According to reviewgamezone.com:
Once you sign up as a teacher Review Game Zone allows the collection of
statistical information on student performance during game play on the site. This
extremely powerful feature allows you to keep track of your students growth and
progress on a particular unit or topic of review.
