ACTIVE SUSPENSION SYSTEM USING LINEAR ACTUATOR

ABSTRACT
This project is concerned with the implementation of the
Electromechanical Linear Actuator to reduce the vibrations in the suspension
system. In this suspension system, actuator force is used to isolate the vibrations.
Since it is a active suspension system, onboard control system is used to control the
vibrations according to the excitations from the shaker testing machine. A quarter
car setup is fabricated with the help of plates made of hylam sheets, guide rods and
springs. This quarter car setup is fixed to the shaker testing machine and the
electromechanical linear actuator is placed in between the plates (middle plate and
top plate). Accelerometer is placed on the top plate as well as the base plate and the
signals are recorded in LAB VIEW software. The recorded signals are analyzed
and amplitude at the base plate as well as top plate is generated as graphs and they
are compared to retrieve the results. This system is also analyzed theoretically
using MAT LAB software. Both the theoretical and the experimental analysis are
compared and studied. It is observed that the actuator force has reduced the
amplitude on the top plate when compared to a passive suspension system.
