Captain's log
2010 is a busy year in the Indian Luxury Yacht market starting with the First Edition of Boating Days from 29th to 31st January at the Cooperage Ground, Mumbai conducted by Indian Marine Federation (IMF). IMF Boating Days is followed by the 4th Mumbai International Boat
Show (MIBS) from the 18th to 21st February at the Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. MIBS promises to
be bigger and better than the previous editions and going by what we have seen these past years we do not
doubt its success this year as well.
The Indian luxury yacht market has matured and the sign of this is the entry of Sanlorenzo,
Italy-the Ultimate Luxury Yacht brand in the World launching its models in India through Nautilus
Yachts. These high end yachts from Sanlorenzo are considered to be the most desired brand in the Yacht
market as it offers levels of luxury and customization options unique to the brand. The Sanlorenzo range
has a signature styling, be it the SL 62 or the stealth design of the 131 Feet 40 Alloy Yacht.
Other Yachts to look out for this year are the Absolute 70, 64 and the 42 from Absolute
Yachts of Italy. These models are not only ideal for India but have been designed keeping in
mind the prevailing environment here and the intended yacht usage. No other main stream Italian Yacht
builder has designed Yachts keeping in mind the requirement of the Indian customer. This gives Absolute
an edge as its Yachts have unparalleled features and designs.
Across the Atlantic from USA, Luhrs Marine Group has made a big splash in the market with its main
brands like Silverton, Hunter Sail Boats and the premium Ovation range. With yacht sizes starting from
33 feet and going up to 55 feet in length there is a yacht for all budget and use. Elsewhere in the issue we
have reviewed the Silverton 43 Sports Bridge a popular yacht in its segment.
Marina projects across India are in full swing with the Cochin Marina almost ready, while Chennai and
Mumbai are launching projects in 2010. The Cochin Marina will be India's First and Only Marina with
a golf course and a luxury hotel and promises to make Cochin into a premier boating destination, thanks
to the natural beauty and world famous backwaters. Foreign yachts have been making regular stopovers
in Cochin for many years now and with the marina ready, domestic Indian Yacht owners can berth their
yachts in this fabulous port city.

Face-to-Face
How important is the Indian
market for Absolute?
The Indian market is very important to
Absolute and a testimony to this is our
new models like the 42, 64 and 70 . These
have been developed keeping in mind
India and its marine environment. Though
India is a new market for Absolute, the
interest generated by clients show how
much our yachts are appreciated here.
Do you have Yachts in your
lineup
suited for India and
other emerging markets?
We have been closely analyzing the Indian
market and while developing our new
range took into account the warm and
humid climatic conditions. This resulted in
the development of the sporty enclosed
fully air conditioned models, of 42, 64 and
70. The other models for example the 52
offers a hard top which protects the guests
from the elements while not sacrificing the
views around. We believe these features
will be highly appreciated by the Indian
buyer.

KERALA YACHTING
ASSOCIATION
Actively Promoting Sailing in South India
stablished in 2005, Kerala Yachting Association (KYA) has grown into a prominent body involved in the development of yachting
and boating in South India. The association is strategically located in Cochin as the city is quickly growing into an important
boating destination in India. With India's first marina almost ready in Cochin and many natural boating destinations, both
backwater and offshore, its an ideal location for yachting. KYA has planned a number of events and activities for both seasoned
boaters and amateurs, in addition to an ongoing training program which has become very popular.
Kerala Yachting Association is affiliated to the Yachting Association of India who are the apex body of yachting in India. Yachting for

from May 1 to 14, 2010. KYA is at the forefront of being involved in this important national event further showing the association's
capabilities and resolve. This big event comes after the successful Volvo Ocean Race stopover in Cochin in which KYA played an
active role.
The association is committed to promote boating and other water sports in a big way both within Kerala and for enthusiasts across
India by making available to them necessary facilities and training. Visit www.keralayachting.com for more information.
eisure Yachting and boating is on a high in Tamil Nadu with Chennai taking the lead with a couple of Marina projects planned.
Based in Chennai, the Tamil Nadu Sailing Association (TNSA) was formed by a group of leading businessmen and sailing
aficionados offering the aspiring public a sailing Association that is affordable, yet full of fun. Sailing is a great adventure sport that
has been going on in the city of Chennai (formerly known as Madras) for many decades but relatively unpublicised. Over the years the
TNSA has fostered, encouraged and trained people in the sport of Sailing and allied Water Sports. The objective also includes building
fraternal relations with other Yacht Clubs and Sailing Association in India and abroad. The Association was actively involved in hosting
the inaugural India International Regatta held during October-November 2009. This major international event has been scheduled as
an annual event bringing together the best sailors from around the world. The India International Regatta will provide the greater Indian
sailing community, in particular youth sailors, with a terrific opportunity to learn and develop into future World Champions. Visit www.
