2010 is a busy year in the Indian Luxury Yacht market starting with the First Edition of Boating Days from 29th to 31st January at the Cooperage Ground, Mumbai conducted by Indian Marine Federation (IMF). IMF Boating Days is followed by the 4th Mumbai International Boat
Show (MIBS) from the 18th to 21st February at the Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. MIBS promises to
be bigger and better than the previous editions and going by what we have seen these past years we do not
doubt its success this year as well.
The Indian luxury yacht market has matured and the sign of this is the entry of Sanlorenzo,
Italy-the Ultimate Luxury Yacht brand in the World launching its models in India through Nautilus
Yachts. These high end yachts from Sanlorenzo are considered to be the most desired brand in the Yacht
market as it offers levels of luxury and customization options unique to the brand. The Sanlorenzo range
has a signature styling, be it the SL 62 or the stealth design of the 131 Feet 40 Alloy Yacht.
Other Yachts to look out for this year are the Absolute 70, 64 and the 42 from Absolute

he Absolute Yachts 70 has won the Award for the Best Internal Lay-out (for Yachts under 24 mts in) at
the World Yacht Trophy Award, organized during the Festival de la Plaisance in Cannes. Absolute also
launched the new Hard Top Coup - the Absolute 42, an extremely versatile and easy to manoeuvre Italian
boat designed for India and other emerging markets. The cockpit can comfortably seats 6 and can also be
converted into an open party lounge or a barbecue area.
At the Genova Boat Show Absolute presented the new Absolute 64. The Absolute 64's slender hull lines
immediately reveal its distinctive style and elegance, typical of the Absolute style. Its uniqueness is then unveiled
when getting on board. Plenty of Natural lighting, space, style and luxury are brought together on the main deck,
creating a union of refinement and relaxation on board.

the first 5 Star Dinner Cruise Yacht
sailing on the romantic backwaters
of Cochin. The 90 feet long Yacht, built by
Skipperliner of USA (exclusively represented
by Nautilus Yachts in India) will carry 150
guests along the backwaters and the
coast of Cochin for Dinner Cruises on all
7 Days of the week. On board, the guests
will have a choice of local and international
cuisine and will be entertained with a variety
of musical and cultural Events. Weekends

Desi Themed Nights on board.

BOAT SHOW
he Mumbai International Boat Show (MIBS) first held in 2007 is in its 4th edition. MIBS
has quickly established itself as the premium boat show in India. To be held at the
Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai, the 2010 show will be from February 18th to 21st.
MIBS '10 promises to be bigger than all the previous shows as it has some of the top
brands in the Yachting world participating in it. According to the show organisers the success of the show is virtually guaranteed as the participation from exhibitors from USA and
Europe ensure that visitors will have a one stop show to see the best yacht and boat brands
in the world. MIBS is featured prominently on the world-wide boat show calendar as India is
a growing yachting market, ahead of markets like China and Brazil.
In addition to the exhibition there will also be a boating conference that will attended by over
200 delegates with key speakers from both India and abroad. Other key attractions include
the MIBS Regatta which will see 300 of the finest sailors across India racing in this event.

IMF Boating Days 2010
he inaugural IMF Boating Days 2010 will be held at the Cooperage Grounds in Mumbai
from the 29th January to 31st January 2010. Organized by the Indian Marine Federation
(IMF), the show is a great boon to the growing boat market in India. This initiative
by IMF is intended to promote yachts and boats and also develop boating in India. IMF
was formed with a mandate to promote, encourage and protect the interests of individuals
or organizations involved in the marine industry and related sectors. The federation plans
to deal with issues faced by its members in the leisure boating industry and it seeks to
represent its members concerns before the Government, including policy and regulatory
issues relating to tariffs, environmental, health and safety laws. For more information on the

he 6th Generation BMW 5 series has

been finally unveiled after months
of speculation on its design by
numerous discussion groups all across
the internet. This sheer interest shows
how much of an important model this is
to BMW, and rightly so since it brings in
the numbers. BMW's new design theme
seen on the larger 7 series is evident here
but in a more subtle way. The crease lines
run through the bonnet and beneath the
doors adding a lot of character to this car.
The similarity to the bigger 7 can be seen
on the interior as well and you can be
forgiven of thinking you are in the bigger
brother. This time around there is a change
in the engines with gasoline engines being
smaller in cubic capacity but turbo charged
to give it more power than the previous
generation. Also interesting for India will
be the new breed of diesel engines which
promises more performance, mileage and
being more environmentally friendly.

Actively Promoting Sailing in South India
stablished in 2005, Kerala Yachting Association (KYA) has grown into a prominent body involved in the development of yachting
and boating in South India. The association is strategically located in Cochin as the city is quickly growing into an important
boating destination in India. With India's first marina almost ready in Cochin and many natural boating destinations, both
backwater and offshore, its an ideal location for yachting. KYA has planned a number of events and activities for both seasoned

Kerala Yachting Association is affiliated to the Yachting Association of India who are the apex body of yachting in India. Yachting for

Based in Chennai, the Tamil Nadu Sailing Association (TNSA) was formed by a group of leading businessmen and sailing
aficionados offering the aspiring public a sailing Association that is affordable, yet full of fun. Sailing is a great adventure sport that
has been going on in the city of Chennai (formerly known as Madras) for many decades but relatively unpublicised. Over the years the
TNSA has fostered, encouraged and trained people in the sport of Sailing and allied Water Sports. The objective also includes building
fraternal relations with other Yacht Clubs and Sailing Association in India and abroad. The Association was actively involved in hosting
the inaugural India International Regatta held during October-November 2009. This major international event has been scheduled as
an annual event bringing together the best sailors from around the world. The India International Regatta will provide the greater Indian

have tragically died following a high speed crash at Mina
Seyahi, Dubai on 11th December 2009. They lost control of their
powerboat which flipped and overturned during the 2009 Class
One UIM/WPPA World Powerboat Championship. A rescue boat
rushed to scene and paramedics performed CPR on the pilots
before airlifting them to the hospital where they were pronounced
dead on arrival. The race was called off following the accident.

Powerboating is a fiercely competitive sport with both driver

and throttleman strapped into 'jet fighter' cockpits. The 42-foot
powerboats, which weight five tons and are powered by twin
900hp engines race at speeds exceeding 160kph in sometimes
unpredictable weather conditions.

Fish Finders
The Parts of a Fish Finder

A fish finder is made of only a few basic parts. The first part is the
transducer, which is the component installed on the bottom of
the watercraft. This is the component that emits the sound waves
and initially receives the response sound waves. Some types of
fish finders have more than one transducer. Above the water is the
transmitter, which is the electrical component that controls sound
emissions from the transducer and translates received sound
waves into electrical signals. Another part, called the receiver,
acts as a link between the transmitter and the display. It translates
the electrical signal from the transmitter into a data signal that
the display can interpret. Finally, the display is a relatively simple
computer with a screen and waterproof case. It displays a visual
representation of the fish, ground, vegetation and other objects
underneath the watercraft.
The Sonar Process
When you turn on a fish finder, the process begins in the
transmitter. Several times every second, the transmitter sends

sonar works by emitting sound waves into water. When
these sound waves hit objects, they bounce back and
are picked up by receivers. The strength of the echoed sound
waves and the amount of time it takes them to bounce back
can be analyzed to detect the presence, position and, in some
cases, composition of objects in the water. This is the same type
of technology that was invented for use in naval warfare during
WWII.

waves travel downward, and if they hit something rigid like a fish,
underwater vegetation, a rock floor or submerged objects, the
sound waves bounce back. The transducer reads these sound

receiver. The receiver then translates the information into a digital
signal and relays it to the display.
Reading the Display
Fish finders vary greatly in their displays. Newer and more
sophisticated fish finders can actually distinguish between a
fish and other underwater objects by reading the echoed sound
wave with very sensitive sensors. With these systems, fish are
often displayed on the screen with fish-shaped symbols. Some
fish finders are just as adept at detecting weeds and logs, and
can display instantly-recognizable symbols for these, as well.
Less-sophisticated systems use identical symbols, usually small
squares, to represent all detected underwater objects. It is up
to the best guesses of the fisherman to determine whether an
object is a fish, a weed, a log or just some trash.

The best time to visit the Andaman & Nicobar Islands is between
December and May. December to the end of February is perfect
for sailing in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands with warm, sunny
conditions and a reliable 20 knots of wind. March and April have
little wind and are the best months for diving and snorkelling
this is also the time of year when the migratory whales visit the
Andaman & Nicobar Islands. April is the best month for surfing
with large swell from the south-west that gives spectacular breaks
along the west coast. From May to December the A&N Islands is
effectively closed with strong winds, very rough sea conditions
