Since lots of children are going to apple orchards this time of year,
we decided to explore apples this week.
Small Group Activities
1. Apple taste testing and graphing- This group session started with
the teacher reading the Biggest Apple Ever by Steven Kroll. Then
children were able to explore three different types of apple: red,
yellow, and green. They were able to touch and smell the apples then
after comparing they were able to taste them! Next, each child was
asked what color apple was their favorite, then they cut out their
name and put it under the Best Tasting Apple to make a graph. This is
posted by the attendance sheet.
4Carpet area- This group session started with the teacher reading The
Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall. Question of the week- Have you ever
been to a cider mill? Most children said Yes! Felt board- 10 apples up
on top. Name that child- Olivia said her favorite food is breakfast
burritos. Haris said his favorite food is pasta. Clifford Magazine about
apples. Vanessa said her favorite food is chocolate chip pancakes.

Planning Activity
Strips of paper cut into different lengths. The children received a strip
and had to look for a friend with the same length of paper. They then
asked each other what their plan was for the day.
Recall Activity
The teacher held the name tags in their hand upside down and one at
a time each student had to take one and spell out their friends name
that was on it. Then the childs name who was on the name tag told
us what they did during work time.
