ABSTRACT

Accounting practices are essential to every business establishment, from the biggest
corporations to the smallest variety store located at your vicinity. This study endeavoured
to provide a suitable understanding about the relationship of the personal profile of the
variety store owners and the accounting practices that they observe. The research design
used was Quantitative and Descriptive Research Design. In addition, the researchers
gathered information through the interview method. The Chi Square Test of Association
and Pearson Contingency Coefficient were also used as statistical tools to determine
whether there was independence or association between the two variables. Results show
that the tools in purchasing and educational attainment had been identified to have high
association or relationship with each other. Moreover, the tools in purchasing and tools in
recording sales have moderate association or relationship with the civil status of owners,
along with practicing accounting measures and educational attainment, practicing
accounting measures and number of years operating, and the capital to start the business
and their gender. The financing activities, the tracking of expenses or the purchasing, and
the tools in recording sales have low association or relationship with gender.
Furthermore, the registration to the barangay and civil status of the store owners had low
association. Lastly, The researchers had recommended that variety store owners that
practice any accounting measures to continue the practices and for those who dont have
any, to start taking into consideration the use of basic accounting principles such as
income less expense, or even just keeping track of their cash inflow and outflow. On top
of that, the researchers would recommend the future researchers to widen the locale of
the study and increase the number of respondents, not to mention include more variables
like the strategic position of the store, time and energy constraint of the store owners and
even operating hours to further enhance the study.
