Presidents Message:

Vice Presidents Message:

The election is almost here and we can see what a twoparty, adversarial system has turned into . . . a system
that divides, rather than unites. Not what the Framers
intended Im sure. But we can never allow the political
system to cause us to forget that we are in fact, an
Exceptional Nation. Unique in its own right and the only
nation on earth in which its people brought forth a
Constitution to which government is always
accountable. Yet gave us a trend where we look to one
man at the top to be our leader, one who could fix the
problems and right the wrongs, which forgetting that our
system is based on a separation of powers within the
three equal and important branches of government,
intended to always put the people first.

The 2016 Veterans Christmas Ride is fast

approaching. I'm asking for your help in making
it as successful as it has been in the past.

So as we head to the polls lets not forget that its not

just the person at the top we need to vote for, but the
other candidates on the lower tickets as well .. . they
need our vote just as much as we need them. Our Judges,
our School Board, our County Commissioners all make
up what we refer to as government. And thats how we
hope that we can maintain our voice and will on them.
So in closing Ill leave you with these thoughts: I hope
and encourage you to get out and vote, vote your
conscience, vote for who you feel best represents your
principles, your values and your way of life. Never
forget that winning an election does not win them the
office, it just grants the office for a certain amount of
time . . . and that the person elected to that office still has
to earn not only the peoples respect, but must earn that
seat itself through their performance. That and that alone
will determine if theyve earned our vote. Not just in this
election, but in the next ones too. So what we do after
the election will most certainly define not only who we
are, but what we will become. Remind our elected
officials that once elected, they represent all of us, not
just their party. And that we will hold them accountable
to us. For as we know united we most certainly will
stand.

What can you do? Any or all of the following:

*volunteer to work the event. We need help
with set-up, registration, parking and staging,
sound system, collecting gifts, etc.
*raise funds. You walk into restaurants, bars,
and stores every day. Why not carry a copy of
the event flyer (back page of this newsletter)
with you and when you go into that place of
business, ask for the manager, show it to him
or her and ask if they would consider making a
donation. The worst they can do is say "No".
*make a donation. There's no rule against an
individual member making a donation to the
event. Why not bring or mail a check to
Southwest Chapter ABATE. Think about these
less-fortunate vets living in a group home, open
your heart and your checkbook and write one
out for $10 or $20 or $50.
*come out for the ride. Spread some
Christmas cheer to folks who might have no
other Christmas than the one we bring them.
Ride free thanks to ABATE of Florida!
Moe

Thank you,
Ride Safe, Robb

ABATE OF FLORIDA, INC./SOUTHWEST CHAPTER

GENERAL MEETING
Six Bends Harley-Davidson, Fort Myers on October 16, 2016
18 members, 2 guests
Silence phones, Pledge of Allegiance, and prayer by Pastor Tom
Meeting called to order at 10:37 a.m.
Welcome to our new members and visitors.
Presidents Report:
Thank you to Pastor Tom for prayer. Robb thanked the crew that staffed our
table at the first Bike Night of the season, they did an outstanding job. In
the primary, we lost motorcycle-friendly State Representatives and
Senators. Washington D.C. is joining the State of Florida bureaucracy in
going after Floridas motorcyclists, based on misrepresented data and the
Safer Crashing premise, which cannot be applied to motorcycles.
Everyone is encouraged to vote their conscience at Election Day, and to
vote on all levels local, State and National. Remember United we stand,
divided we fall!
Vice Presidents Report:
Moe reported the Masterlink newsletter is available, both in print and online. The U.S. Federals Highway Administration is campaigning for safety
on highways for a zero-death initiative. Advertising we need more ads for
our newsletter for additional revenue. Everyone is encouraged to go to the
FaceBook page of Southwest Florida Riders and Friends, anyone can post
on it and there is a lot of interesting information there.
18 year old Adam King was hit and killed by Adam Costello, who has been
arrested and pled not-guilty to all charges. His next court appointment is
November 16th and Moe is asking for as many motorcyclists as possible to
go to court to show support to the family from the motorcycle community.
Moe will post the information on Southwest Florida Riders and Friends,
along with the time when he gets it. The Gary Shaw Right-of-Way bill
has been introduced. Gary was killed on his motorcycle on Pine Island
Road.
Secretarys Report:
Gwynne stated that she was absent last month due to her 16 day, 16 state,
almost 4,000 mile ride with her brother to escort the Road Warriors
(wounded veterans) from Johnson Creek, WI to New Orleans, LA. It was
an honor and a privilege to get to know some of them. Therefore, last
months minutes were taken by Heidi Szolga. Motion to accept by Big
Bird, seconded by Don Tupper, all in favor, motion carried.
Treasurers Report:
Heidi reported the beginning and ending balance of our chapters account.
Our expenses were for the newsletter and insurance for the Christmas ride
to the Veterans home. Income was from a new ad in our newsletter from
Rackem Billiards and membership. There was a lot of money in and out of
the account because of the State meeting and party at the Peace River
Campground. The actual report is available if anyone wants to look at it
after the meeting. Motion to accept by Don Tupper, seconded by Charlie
Fisher, all in favor, motion carried.
Membership Report:
For September there were 2 new members, no renewals.
Public Relations:
No report
Legislative Report:
A list of motorcycle-friendly candidates was previously sent out to all
ABATE members. Please look at it before you vote. We cannot lose the
House or Senate. Please tell your friends about the list of candidates.
There are bills coming from D.C. regarding safer crashes for motorcyclists.
President Robb read a letter from the Motorcycle Rights Foundation
regarding the rights and freedoms of motorcyclists and the fact that they are
advocates for us on the Federal level.

Report from State Meeting - Heidi reported it was discussed at the State
meeting that we should all go to other chapters monthly meetings to create
camaraderie. The State Board of Directors has been asked to create a budget,
make it available to all chapters and stick to it. The next Freedom Ride on
Tallahassee will be April 10, 2017. Orange and black T-shirts will be made up
that say Biker Lives Matter printed on the front, because most people will be
wearing vests that would cover the message if it were on the back. There are
about 1,000 at-large members that dont have access to information regarding
ABATE. The State will reach out to them. The next State meeting will be
December 10th at Gator Alley.
Products Report:
We have year pins available.
Old Business:
Due to the cost of insurance and other issues that arose last year from the State
Board, we are implementing a $5.00 per bike/trike/vehicle registration fee for
the Veterans Christmas Run. Moe is once again in charge of overseeing the
run and asks for volunteers. It will be Sunday, December 18 th, beginning at
Sun Sports in Ft. Myers. After speaking with the management of the Veterans
Home, it was decided we will continue to give them gift cards and Pastor Tom
will have a truck available for anyone who wants to donate other gifts. Big
Bird has graciously agreed to be Santa Claus again this year! We are asking
Kevin if he wants to do the pancake breakfast again. The Sergeant-at-Arms is
looking to recruit assistants.
New Business:
New Biker Lives Matter t-shirts and patches will be available for the
Freedom Ride April 10th. ABATE needs to make a strong showing in
Tallahassee. State Legislative Trustee Darrin suggested post cards to address
our State Legislators with our individual chapter logos on one side.
Saturday, November 5th, the Lost Riders will host a ride for our Fallen Heroes.
Bonnie Rogers from the Fish Tale Marina is requesting our help for a Teddy
Bear Run, to go out to the marina on Ft. Myers Beach and pick up the bears
and deliver them to the Sheriffs office. Health Park still has so many left over
from our previous donations, they cannot accept any more. (Kudos to all of
you who participated in the past that they have this problem.) This run will
be December 17th, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, the day before our Veterans Run.
ABATE has been invited to participate in the Veterans Day Parade, Friday,
November 11th. It will begin at SE 47th Terrace and SE 10th Place. More
information will follow.
A vote was required to decide which item our State lobbyist should pursue with
the State Legislators. It was unanimous that the helmet law was our first
priority and stiffer penalties was second. Robb will e-mail Doc with the
results.
Good of the Order:
We still have some tickets for the gun raffle, the drawing will be at the
December 10th State meeting. We also have $10 tickets for the drawing of two
quilts made by the Forrest Chapter.
There are a limited number of white and black ABATE t-shirts available.
Itchy Richie Richard Mocny, a past member of our chapter requested to
speak and said we are a political organization and more people need to get out
there with our message. He later signed up as a new member welcome
Richie.
Motion to adjourn:
Motion made by Don Tupper, seconded by Gwynne Hickman, all in favor,
motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 11:52 am.

Father Toms Message:

Save Your ABATE Chapter
and
Stop the Progressive Agenda Against Motorcyclists
(Commitment Part 2)
Dear Fellow ABATE Members,
Today, we sat in another one of our ABATE meetings, one month later. And, the attendance from
last month was almost DOUBLED!!! However, there were only enough members to cover the first
two rows of meeting chairs in a much, much, larger room. One of the attendees called out and said,
This room should be full! We most certainly agree.
In the year 2000, Florida, with ABATE leading the fight, was able to reverse a Universal Helmet
Law and weve been enjoying that freedom, since then. However, what seems as a progressive
agenda (as stated by one of our leaders) to take back the 2000 victory, is looming its ugly head.
The Governors Highway Safety Association (GSHA) is pushing for Universal Helmet Laws be
required in all States.
(http://www.ghsa.org/html/stateinfo/laws/helmet_laws.htm ) Our Florida Department of Transportation is a member of this group. If
we do not reunite, more than just our progress in helmet laws, will be at risk. Weve heard rumors that some believe the only way to
prevent motorcycle accidents and related fatalities, are to completely eliminate motorcycles!
The ONLY motorcycle rights group in Florida is ABATE! Regardless of any other motorcycle club, association, or group you belong
to you as a rider NEED to be an ACTIVE part of ABATE! And, you need to convince other riders to join with us. Along with
other motorcycle issues, ABATE is pushing for stiffer penalties against those guilty in accidents, involving motorcycles. If you do not
become involved in the legislative process, we will all lose! Freedom is not free!
PLEASE ATTEND YOUR NEXT ABATE CHAPTER MEETING! GET INVOLVED!
We wrote about commitment, last month, and what it takes to help make ABATE successful. We all have so many varied talents. It
takes each one of those talents, joined together, to make a whole organization function successfully.
The Book of Ephesians 4:16, in the Bible, tells us in a way that every single person has been given some talent. "... the whole body,
joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work." Some are the
brains. Some are the heart. Some are the heads, fingers, toes, muscles, etc...
There is one other commitment we would ask for you to make. It is a commitment that will not only last this lifetime but, carry us into
eternity. Jesus said, in Revelation 3:15-16 (NASB) I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold
or hot. 'So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. To us, this scripture is very clear
that God is not looking for fence sitters and has a distain for those who cannot commit to Him.
Jesus was looking for commitment in Luke 9:57-62. As they were walking along the road, a man said to Him, "I will follow you
wherever you go." Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His
head." He said to another man, "Follow me." But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." Jesus said to him,
"Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God." Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but
first let me go back and say good-by to my family." Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for
service in the kingdom of God."
Its clear to see in this passage of Luke, everyone had something else to do; they were all into their own thing. They were looking at
their situation, all wrapped up in their own small ambitions, instead of looking at the big picture and turning their lives to Christ. They
could not make a commitment.
Jesus said, I stand at the door and knock. How will you answer that door? Can you answer with your commitment to Him? If so...
Will you please pray this prayer to God? "Dear God, the God of Jesus, my Heavenly Father, I confess that I am a sinner and
have been separated from You. I ask forgiveness of my sins. I repent and accept this gift of repentance. I confess with my
mouth that your son Jesus is my Savior and died for me. I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead. I receive
Jesus into my heart and ask Him to become the center of my life. I ask, in the Name of Jesus. Amen."
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"
Blessings, Tom and Kathy
Chaplain Tom (Estero River Life Member and Southwest Life Member and Chapter Chaplain) and Chaplain Kathy (SW ABATE Life
Member - Foursquare Chaplain) - tprovenz@comcast.net 239-267-8641
PS. PLEASE put the next ABATE Chapter meeting on your calendar! Even if you have not been there for a while, they will be
happy to see you and you will be warmly greeted.

Legislative Report:
We sent out a motorcycle friends list to vote for and to tell your friends about. Please use it. Get out and vote, vote your

conscience, vote for who you feel best represents your principles, your values and your way of life. Never forget that
winning an election does not win them the office, it just grants the office for a certain amount of time . . . and that
the person elected to that office still has to earn not only the peoples respect, but must earn that seat itself through
their performance. That and that alone will determine if theyve earned our vote.

Membership Report:
For the month of October we had three renewals and five new members welcome Edward Wolfe, Tom Player, Roger
Miller, Abbey Bryant and Richard Mocny!
Memberships that will expire at the end of November are Jim Cranden, Charlie Fisher, Tim Heitz, Edward Lufkin, John
