ASSIGNMENT QUESTION:
Serious accidents may not be common in workplaces but, when they do happen, they can
be devastating. You may lose an experienced worker, face legal compliance issues, spends
considerable time conducting internal investigations and experience sharp increases in
workers compensation premiums. Employers are ultimately responsible for the safety and
health in their workplace.
The responsibility for compliances with the law and implementation of occupational safety
and health (OSH) programmes in the workplace lie with the employer who creates the risk
and the employee who works with the risk. With OSH legal register, employers can reassure
that their business is up-to-date with its OSH legal requirements.
The register itself can take in many forms, but is often produced in the form of a table, and
this is often achieved by using a spreadsheet. As the SHO, you are required to prepare a
legal register report which should include the following :
a. Select an organisation
(5 marks)
b. Determine the OSH legal requirements for the above organisation
(30 marks)
c. Determine the regulator who enforce the identified OSH legal requirements (as in b)
(10 marks)
d. Describe how the identified OSH legal requirements apply to the organisation/ site.
