ThisdistinctiveMAinBiblicalStudieshostsdiverseapproachestostudyingtheBible:initsancienthistoricalandlinguisticcontext,
asliterature,andasgenerativesourceofcenturiesoftheologicalreflection.TheMAengageswiththeBibleinallitsrichness,in
respectofthecontroversiesithassparked,andinitsreceptionindiversemedia(includingliteratureandvisualart).Itistaughtby
biblicalscholarsandtheologians.Studentscanchoosespecialismswithinthewiderangeofapproachesavailable,followingoneof
twopathways.

Structureofdegree
StudentsonallMAcoursesmustcompletemodulesworthatotalof180creditsovertheirperiodofstudy(insomecases,amaximum
of200creditsmaybepermissible),madeupbyacombinationofcompulsorymodules,optionalmodulesandadissertation.
TheMAinBiblicalStudieshasonecompulsorytaughtmodule,whichinvolvesengagementwithbiblicaltextsthroughawiderange
ofancientandmoderncommentariesandinterpretations.Studentswilllearnhowanalyseandevaluatetheexegeticalmethods
employed,tonegotiatebetweenconflictinginterpretations,andtoreflectonthehermeneuticalissuesthatarise.Inaddition,students
willundertakearangeofindividualmoduleoptions,dependingonthepathwaytheyelecttofollow,andpursueindepthstudy
throughasupervisedresearchdissertationofupto15,000words.Studentsdeveloptheirdissertationtopicsinconsultationwiththe
staff,whorepresentarangeofspecialisedinterests.
