Lesson Three: Landforms

This lesson reviews common landforms and introduces several new landforms to the
students. Students guess the names of different landforms based on pictures and sketch them out
in their social studies notebook. After going over the landforms, students get together with a
small group and are assigned a landform to act out. The rest of the class guesses which landform
is being acted out.
Objective

landforms using pictures when
given a list of the landforms

Assessments:
For the preassessment the students were asked to write on a piece of paper what they
think a landform is. They were also asked to give an example of a landform.
During the lesson I had the students view a picture of landform, then make a sketch of it
and label it in their social studies notebooks. This allowed me to see which students could
identify the most essential feature of that landform. As I asked students to differentiate between
certain landforms, I assessed them based on their verbal responses.
As a summative lesson I looked at students sketches of their landforms. I also assessed
them as they worked in groups to act out the different landforms. This allowed me to see how
they worked collaboratively and if their actions accurately reflected the landform they were
given.
