1st CREPTA G A M FOR 2O16/2017 ACADEMIC YEAR

Venue : Saint Benedict Bilingual college Mvolye Yaound

LESSON PLAN FOR DEMONSTRATING THE APPLICATION OF THE C B A IN A CLASSROOM SETTING

Teacher: Mm Mukum Anne
School : Saint Benedict Bilingual college Yaound

Date: Wednesday 26 October 2016

Subject : Physics & Technology

Class : Form 2 D

Module : Matter : Properties and transformation

Lesson topic : Change of state

Lesson sub-topic :
Evaporation

Materials needed: A medicine dropper, stop watch, Alcohol, writing board and associated materials and conference papers.
Lesson summary
Evaporation
Activity: To show how evaporation takes place

Molecular explanation of evaporation

Lesson Objectives
At the end of the lesson students shall be able to :

observe and describe the process of evaporation;

explain evaporation using the molecular theory and how evaporation causes cooling;
state factors that can affect evaporation.

Prerequisite knowledge
Students should :
know the kinetic theory of matter;
have background knowledge on the three states of matter and the arrangement of particles in solids, liquids and gases;
be able to describe the change in state from solid to liquid and vice versa, and from liquid to gas and vice versa.

ACTIVITIES

MATERIALS

Capture students interest

Wet a handkerchief, squeeze and spread it out before spreading it out
somewhere in class.
Ask the following two questions to the
students :
ENGAGEMENT At the end of class, do you think the handkerchief will still be wet
or will it be dry?
5 minutes
Where does the water in the handkerchief go to?
The teacher shall listen to answers from students and explain to
them that when water evaporates, it changes from a liquid to a gas
and equally points out that the word evaporate has the word
vapor in itwater changes to water vapor but it is still water.
Lessons activity
EXPLORATION The students shall be grouped and provided with materials for the
lessons activity. They shall equally be guided by the activitys

instruction guide to observe a liquid disappear from a surface.
Students explanation
The teacher shall ask the following questions to the students and
write out the answers provided by the students on the board:

Where did the liquid disappear to?

What did you observe as the liquid was evaporating?

What did you do to speed up evaporation?

Where did the energy to change the liquid into a gas come
from?
Teachers explanation
EXPLANATION Since the alcohol is very volatile, it evaporates quickly. The three
drops on the palm evaporate within a few minutes. The transfer of a
15 minutes liquid into its vapor state takes energy. This energy is usually
supplied to the liquid in the form of heat. When this heat is not

Application of knowledge
The teacher shall ask the students to provide answers to the

How can evaporation be useful to us and the environment?
Lessons summary
The teacher shall encourage one of the students in class to stand-up
and summarize the lesson. She shall ask guiding questions to enable

students shall be encouraged to chip-in their different contributions
