ABSTRACT

The term vibrations when applied to floors refers to the oscillatory motion
experienced by the building and its occupants during the course of normal
day-to-day activities. This motion is normally vertical (up and down), but
horizontal vibrations are also possible. In construction, vibration is one of the
most important criteria to be considered as vibration can influenced the
structural constructions and leads to discomfort for the human to do activities.
Higher frequency of vibration can cause damages to structural construction.
Thus, to avoid any inconvenient occurance from happening and so the
structure can be fully functioned, the methods to minimize these vibrations
need to be determined. Floor vibrations are generally caused by dynamic
loads applied either directly to the floor by people or machinery or indirectly
by moving floor supports after transmission through the building structure or
through the ground. One of the principal sources of vibration in buildings is
human activity, e.g. walking, dancing, jumping, etc. The purpose of this study
is to determine the vibration behaviour of concrete floor induced by jumping
type of loads. The instrument use to take the reading is accelerometer. The
important parameters for the vibration behaviour of concrete floor such as
natural frequency, damping ratio, and mode shape are expected to be
determine. After getting the result, then it can be determine whether the
buildings fullfill the criteria to human comfort or not.
