But still I have been forced to

we can still accomplish good

in the Northeast has declined
significantly due to a number of
reasons, one of which is the
decline in demand for the type
of paper our regions mills produce, and paper in general.
Anyone with a computer, smart

guess that we simply dont use
as much paper as we used to.
New Hampshire no longer has

Windows Update (WU), the
search for new patches started
but never finished at not
least in any reasonable amount
of time. Moreover, Task
Manager showed that CPU use
was pegged at 100 percent. (For
many Win7 users, thats some
seriously dj vu.)

But while there are numerous

fixes for stuck WU scanning in
Windows 7, that doesnt appear
to be the case with Vista. A Web
search of the topic brought up
only old articles and posts.
Microsoft isnt much help here,
either. If you download the
Windows
Update
Troubleshooter tool (site),
youll discover that Vista apparently doesnt know what to do
with it; you get the dialog box
that asks what application to
use to run the file.

So the best option for Vista

WU-scanning issues seemed to
be to try what works for Win7.

I started with the relatively easy

and the only technique
that worked on my Win7 systems: temporarily disabling
update scanning and installing
patches manually. As has been
widely reported, endless update
scans in Win7 might be solved
by installing specific patches
separately and before others, to
do that go to Windows Update
Catalog to download and install
your updates manually, here is
the
link
http://www.catalog.update.micr
osoft.com/Home.aspx on the
search bar type your version of
Windows such as Windows 7
x64 and it will list all the
updates for your version of windows click the download button
net to the updates you need to
install, save the download to a
folder such as Downloads, after
downloading the updates you
need go to that folder and install
the updates.

This may be a primitive way of

keeping Windows Vista and 7
up to date but may be the only
way since Microsoft is concentrating their efforts more on
Windows 10 than the older version of Windows.

Dear Friends, where is your focus?

With things happening in this world at
an alarming rate, it's no wonder there is so
much anxiety. But God has a better plan.
Worship gets you trough the hardest times in
your life because it shifts your focus from the
problem to the problem solver. Keep your
eyes on Jesus. Hebrews 12:2. God never
meant for us to carry these burdens. So what
do you say? Why don't you turn those cares
over to Him. You will be glad you did. God
bless.

Letter To The Editor___________________ Letter To The Editor_______________________________________

Our candidates for State Senate

We have two distinctly different candidates running for the 2nd

district seat being relinquished by Sen. Jeanie Forrester. One is
Charlie Chandler, a Democrat from Warren and retired attorney
with 45 years of experience in local and state government.
Chandler believes in fundamental justice and equal protection
under the law for all citizens.

The other candidate is Bob Giuda, a retired airline pilot who left
his home (also in Warren) to join Nevada rancher Cliven Bundys
armed confrontation with federal officials over defaulted grazing
fees and to support his anti-government movement.

I am running for re-election to

Executive Council District 1
and I ask for your vote on
Tuesday November 8th. The
New Hampshire Executive
Council has gotten more notoriety this time as two of my colleagues are now running for
Governor representing their
perspective parties.
The
Executive Council is a two part
Executive Branch system in
which the Council administrates the Executive Branch
along with the Governor.

My past experience as a local

selectman, a Marine veteran
and state legislator (eight years
in the NH House and six years
in the State Senate) and now
three years on the Council have
given me even more experience
to help people in the District. I
have a hundred percent attendance at all Executive Council
meetings, Judicial and Health
and
Education
Finance
Authority hearings. I have committed myself to the Executive
Council full time and I have
enjoyed it greatly

If re-elected, the issues I want

to work on are: constituent
service, work with the economic
development corporations to
create more New Hampshire
jobs and to shape the ten year
highway plan to

better assist our communities

and transportation system in
District 1. I want to help fight
the drug opioid crisis in New
Hampshire (the Council has
passed over 24 million dollars
in contracts to help with prevention, treatment and recovery
programs) and work with higher education and the community
college system to develop a
future work force. I want to con-

tinue to support our travel and

tourism and recreation industry
and to look out for our social
service needs. We need to see if
we can limit our sole source
contracts in state government,
there needs to be more competitive bidding process within our
contracting system and we need
to keep as many contracts here
in New Hampshire, millions
and millions of dollars are
going out of state.

I hope to continue to educate

students on the uniqueness of
Governor and Council and its
history. As of last year, my
office re-instituted the District 1
college internship program and
it now has the support from
Plymouth State University as
an accredited internship program.

Finally, the Council is a great

check and balance system in
state government, the Governor
knows she has to count to three
before anything passes during a
Council meeting.
On November 8th, I asked for
your vote and it has been a
pleasure serving you.
Joseph D. Kenney
Executive Councilor, District 1

Thomson Endorses Giuda For NH Senate__________________

Lifelong activist Tom Thomson
of Orford, son of the late
Governor Meldrim Thomson,
has endorsed Republican candidate Bob Giuda for NH State
Senate. Giuda, former 3-term
Representative and Deputy
Majority Leader of the House,
is committed to improving the
states lagging business environment. Giuda stated, Our
region has lost almost a thousand manufacturing jobs due
primarily to the business climate in which we find our-

selves. Our deteriorating roads,

bridges and other infrastructure,
high energy costs, drug abuse
epidemic and underprepared
workforce are costing us the
jobs we need to revitalize our
economy. Startup activity is at
its lowest level in decades, as
foreign countries and other
states continue to win out over
many parts of New Hampshire,
which is currently among the 10
lowest-ranked states in the US
for doing business. To attract
and retain businesses, we have

to be able to compete against

the other New England states
and other parts of the country
and the world.

Regarding the endorsement,

Thomson issued the following
statement. Bob has the energy,
vision, values and conservative
ideas we need in Concord. His
years of dedicated service to
community, state and nation
have proven that he has the
leadership, experience and
judgment to serve as our next
State Senator.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval

Academy and soon-to-beretired international airline captain, Giuda is a strong advocate
for creating jobs rather than
expanding government programs and mandates to deal
with the sagging economy.
Almost every business Ive
spoken with is either reluctant
or unable to expand because of
overregulation, taxation and
workforce issues. We dont
need more government. We

Vermont Trapping Season Has Started - Keep Your Pets Safe_______________________________________

Trapping season starts on the
4th Sunday of October each
year in Vermont and runs
through March 31st. With trapping season comes the unintended consequences of trapped
dogs, cats and other non-targeted animals. Ground trapping
runs through December 31st.

Traps may be set on private and

public land, including National
Wildlife Refuges. Trappers are
not required to erect signage as
to where theyre trapping nor
are they required to set their
traps away from trails. Traps
are baited or lured so a trap set
for a coyote can trap a dog or
cat. Trappers are not required to
report if they catch a non-targeted animal, even if its someones pet. The two trap types
that pose the greatest risk to
pets are leghold traps and
Conibear, or kill traps.

it in time. Each day we learn of

cats who go missing in Vermont
and because trappers arent
required to report if they trap a
cat (or dog) its unknown how
many of these cats mightve
perished in traps that were
intended for wild animals.
If an animal is caught in a
Conibear, or kill trap, they
arent so lucky. These traps are
designed to quickly kill animals, but that would require the

proper animal entering the

been witnessed with Conibears

CYAN MAGENTA YELLOW BLACK (Page 23)

Two days after the official start

of trapping season last year a
woman from Windsor county
was out walking her 4-month
old puppy who became trapped
in a leghold trap. The woman
frantically tried to release the
dog from the trap and out of
pain and panic, the puppy bit
the woman. The woman ended
up carrying the puppy back to
her home with the trap attached
to his paw where her neighbor
helped her remove the trap. The
woman told Protect Our

her that day. The dog still has a
