StartingupaProject
ThisisthefirstprocessinPRINCE2.Itisapreprojectprocess,designedtoensurethattheprerequisitesforinitiatingthe
projectareinplace.
TheprocessexpectstheexistenceofaProjectMandatewhichdefinesinhighleveltermsthereasonfortheprojectandwhat
outcomeissought.StartingupaProjectshouldbeveryshort.
Theworkoftheprocessisbuiltaroundtheproductionofthreeelements:
Ensuringthattheinformationrequiredfortheprojectteamisavailable
DesigningandappointingtheProjectManagementTeam
CreatingtheInitiationStagePlan.

DocumentandconfirmthatanacceptableBusinessCaseexistsfortheproject

Agreetothecommitmentofresourcesforthefirststageoftheproject
EnableandencouragetheProjectBoardtotakeownershipoftheproject
Providethebaselineforthedecisionmakingprocessesrequiredduringtheproject'slife
Ensurethattheinvestmentoftimeandeffortrequiredbytheprojectismadewisely,takingaccountoftheriskstothe
project.

ManagingStageBoundaries
ThisprocessprovidestheProjectBoardwithkeydecisionpointsonwhethertocontinuewiththeprojectornot.

AssuretheProjectBoardthatalldeliverablesplannedinthecurrentStagePlanhavebeencompletedasdefined
ProvidetheinformationneededfortheProjectBoardtoassessthecontinuingviabilityoftheproject

nextstage,togetherwithitsdelegatedtolerancelevel
Recordanymeasurementsorlessonswhichcanhelplaterstagesofthisprojectand/orotherprojects.

ThisprocessdescribesthemonitoringandcontrolactivitiesoftheProjectManagerinvolvedinensuringthatastagestayson
courseandreactstounexpectedevents.TheprocessformsthecoreoftheProjectManager'seffortontheproject,beingthe
