Some Words of Wisdom

If theres one thing weve learned about Scotty

Head Football Coach Greg Liebelt since hes taken over
the program, he loves the game, he loves his players,
he never makes excuses, hes always optimistic, and
theres always a bigger picture. Heres part of the
speech Coach Liebelt gave his boys following the heartbreaking 46-40 loss to Colstrip to wrap up Glasgows
post-season appearance:

Sports arent everything, but they are a huge part
of our lives, for many things building character that
is in us, they teach us discipline, they teach us about
hard work, and thats what we need to go on in life.
Whether you lose a loved one, whatever your family

situations are that seem so insurmountable, you still

have to be accountable for yourself. You have to pick
yourself up and keep going forward.

Its not just about being a great football player and
winning a state championship. Thats all just part of it.
Its more about taking into account and appreciating the
things that you have, working hard and going forward
and being great citizens in your community.

I know my Dad is in Heaven, hes watching us, and
football was a great thing for me to have as a distraction
during a week like this. There is nothing more I like
doing than be out here with you guys, with the game I
love the most, and blessed me the most in my life.

In life, as in football, you wont go far unless you

know where the goalposts are. ~ Arnold H. Glasgow

Coach Liebelt: We had our

opportunities with Colstrip

It was a dreary, gloomy day this past Saturday,

October 29th when the Colstrip Colts were in Glasgow
for the first round of the Class B Football Playoffs: cold
and misty right up to kickoff time, and the sun never
poked out once.
The gloominess continued to hover in the heart for
Scotty fans upon completion of the contest.
Even so, Coach Greg Liebelt kept his poise as weve
seen him do time and time again when that final game
has the Scotties losing at some point in the playoffs.
Im very proud of our season and our kids, he
said. It was a complete turnaround from last season
with a tremendous group of seniors that led the way and
helped us get back in and be a competitive program,
and we played one of the top teams in the state.
Whether or not Colstrip ends up winning it
all, theyre right in the thick of things. We gave them
everything we could do. We had our opportunities but
unfortunately we came up short right at the end.

Coach Liebelt couldnt praise his team enough.
Our kids love the game, they worked hard, and it
was a lot of fun just being part of it.
Despite having a very cushy mid-to-late season
following those first four games on the schedule before
finally meeting up with Malta for their final regularseason contest, Coach Liebelt said there are some
positives that can be said about that as well.
We recognize that other schools like Huntley
Project and Missoula Loyola go through the same
thing, he said. You look at those teams and a team like
Fairfield, most of their games are pretty lopsided. But
games like those give our kids some great opportunities
to get out on the field and play and fans enjoy listening
to the canon fire a lot its fun when it sounds like
a Gatling gun. So theres always something good to be
taken out of it.
And in the end we brought forth our best effort and
gave Colstrip everything that we could do and stayed in
it to the very end, it just wasnt enough. I take my hat off
to the Colstrip Colts, theyre a great team, very physical,
very talented. We knew it was going to be tough to beat
them.
The game came down to the wire, keeping all the
fans in the stands to the final firing of the canon to
signal the end of the game. To which Coach Liebelt
humorously concluded with a smile, We certainly do
everything we can to keep selling those concessions!

Game check stations offer more than just law enforcement

Stopping at game check stations isnt only the
law; it provides a great opportunity for successful and
unsuccessful hunters alike to learn something.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks check station
staff get the chance to visit with hunters all through
the day and hear about hunting conditions and animal
movements. If youre struggling to locate critters, a
swing through a check station might be just the help
you need.
If you are successful, check station staff clue you in
as to your animals age and health.
With the general deer and elk season underway as
of October 22nd, hunters should remember that state
law requires them to stop at all game checking stations
on their routes of travel to and from hunting areas.
While in the field, hunters can expect to encounter
two basic types of game check stations law enforcement
stations and biological stations. If you are a hunter you
must stop, even if you have no game to check.
Officers at law enforcement stations will normally
ask to see hunters licenses and if they were successful
in bagging an animal. They will also check to make sure
that any animals taken are properly tagged and that all

other laws and regulations governing the taking of that

animal were observed.
Wildlife biologists generally operate biological
checking stations. When hunters stop at biological
checking stations, they may be asked a variety of
questions including how many deer or elk or antelope
they saw and in which drainages or general locations
their hunting took place. The biologist may weigh the
animal, measure its antlers or horns, or remove a tooth
from its lower jaw, all to provide an index to the health
and condition of a particular herd or population.
FWP also offers a free online program called The
Montana Hunter-Landowner Stewardship Project. This
project is an information program for anyone interested
in promoting responsible hunter behavior and good
hunter-landowner relations in Montana.
The program is delivered through an interactive
website utilizing questions, videos, and feedback as well
as opportunities for you to test your knowledge on a
variety of practical topics related to hunter-landowner
relations and responsible hunter behavior.
Please go to: http://fwp.mt.gov/education/hunter/
