Weekly Team meeting I had to present section on procurement for the

trades I am responsible for Good to develop skills of public speaking.

19/07/2016

Coordination issue arose on site between hydraulic and mechanical

services. This situation required analytical skills to determine issue and
provide resolution. The issue was resolved successfully.

Processed claims for various services trades as they are submitted midmonth. Had to compare claim with progress on site and mark-up
accordingly. This was a good activity to get out on site and see the
progress on the job.

Attended weekly services/finishes subcontractor meeting, took minutes.

This was good to see how fast progress happens on a construction site,
as I was able to see what had occurred from the week before.
Coordination issues were discussed and resolved amongst relevant
parties.

Time management skills are improving. I have learnt to prioritise my

workload and when I receive a task, I ask when it needs to be done by. I
have started writing down all tasks and colour coding due to priority. This
helps me not to forget anything.

Assisted with QA process for closing hydraulic and mechanical risers.

Took photos on site, received physical ITPs from subcontractors, and
gave approval to plasterboard trade to close up risers. Had midplacement review with senior project engineer. Discussed progress and
goals for the next few weeks. It was good to get a gauge on how I was
going.

Assisted in completing a tender comparison for Carpet package. This

involved comparing the prices between tenderers and determining if
anything was excluded from the scope of works. From this, the
appropriate tenderer was selected to come in for a final interview.

Attended cadet peer group with others in my position in the company.

Went on a field trip to a crane yard and listened to a presentation on
tower cranes. Great experience to learn from experts and was able to
network with new people. Good to work on communication skills.

28/07/2016

Ran a QA review with each individual trade to track their progress. I

developed a chart to track individual submissions and went through what
was missing or incomplete. I have developed a better understanding of
what is required from each trade for each section of works.

30/07/2016

Performed preliminary cost review for end of month report. Went through
all cost codes to determine what had been spent and what to forecast for
the coming month.

Attended end of month project review with senior management. This

process involves going through costs, resources, progress and many
other things to determine how the project is going. It was interesting to
see all the figures come together and what they mean.

Activity/Achievement

Reviewed hydraulic drawings for approval. Architect and consultant had

already reviewed and made comments. This was good to get a better
understanding of hydraulic services and reading drawings which is a
really important skill in the industry.

3/08/2016

Reviewed invoices and started approval process for preliminary costs.

This process goes from me, through my senior engineer, contracts
administrator, and construction manager. This is good to get an idea of
the preliminary costs involved on a construction project.

4/08/2016

Attended weekly services/finishes subcontractor meeting, took minutes.

New finishes trades have come on board (Tiling, Carpet, Shower
Screens, Stone). Good to get an understanding of their upcoming works.

Attended 4 meetings today. Two tender meetings (Signage and

Cleaning), team meeting, and first aiders meeting. This meant I had to
exercise my time management skills to make sure I got all my tasks done.
I had a lot of work to action coming out of the meetings so it was
important that I took it all down and prioritised it. I have been improving on
this skill throughout my work placement.

Performed final review with senior project engineer. Acknowledged

achievements and developments over the past few weeks. It was good to
be able to discuss the skills I had developed and identify key areas which
I had improved in. It was helpful to have the experience of my supervisor
to teach and guide me through my learning.

Attended inspection with hydraulic consultant on site. This occurs once a

month and gives a chance for the consultant to view the subcontractors
progress and quality of work. Documented the inspection with minutes
and photos. Gave me a better understanding of what is involved in
hydraulic services and the involvement of the consultant.

Procurement team meeting to update on various packages that I am

looking after. Since start of placement 2 trades have been let (Carpet &
Shower Screens), I am involved with 4 more (Cleaning, Line Marking,
Letterboxes, and Roller Shutters). The process is quite thorough, and I
am in developing scopes of work, attending tender interviews, and
creating comparisons between tenderers.

11/08/2016

Closed out all outstanding tasks from placement period. Ensured I

followed up with trades who still had outstanding or incomplete QA. I will
be continuing on in this position with similar tasks and hope to develop
further analytical and problem solving skills.
