The Organizers
Government Medical College & Hospital, Chandigarh was started for graduate i.e. MBBS and
postgraduate studies for the students belonging to Chandigarh in the year 1991 with the objectives of
fulfilling the glaring deficiency of an undergraduate Medical College in the Union Territory of
Chandigarh.
The Department of Psychiatry in GMCH was started in February 1994 at Poly Clinic, Sector-22. The OPD
services were shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector-32 in June 1995. The
department got expanded after joining of Dr. B. S. Chavan as Prof. & Head in 1996 and introduction of
indoor facility at GMCH. The community services were added in the year 1997 and Government Institute
of Mentally Retarded Children (GIMRC) now named Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual
Disability (GRIID) came under the direct supervision of the department in December 1998.
The psychiatric social work section under the center of excellence scheme of National Mental Health
Program of Government of India was started in the year 2012. The department currently has one
Associate Professor, one Assistant Professor and two Psychiatric Social Workers. Besides this
department also has 8 Medical Social Workers, working in the section under department of psychiatry.
M.Phil in Psychiatric Social Work with 8 seats was started in 2013.

With great pride and privilege we are pleased to invite you to attend the 35th
Annual Conference of Indian Society of Professional Social Workers (ISPSW) at
Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) sector-32, Chandigarh on 9th -11th
February 2017.
The name of Chandigarh the city beautiful, is derived from Goddess of power
Chandi whose temple (Chandi Mandir) is on Chandigarh-Kalka road. Situated
at the edge of Shivalik Hills and planned by famous French architect Le
Corbusier. Today Chandigarh is pioneer in many respects and is making steady
progress in all directions. It is fast emerging as a hub of socio economic growth,
as a knowledge city, a tourist attraction with social and physical structure.
The theme of the conference, Social Stress, Resilience and Mental Health, is
expected to benefit academicians, students, Social work and professionals
irrespective of the area they are working in The deliberations by the eminent
professionals on the theme are expected to enrich our knowledge and provide
directions to develop resilience of people in times of adversity which is crucial to
prevent mental health problems. The award papers and free papers will further
strengthen the whole scientific program. There will be plenary lecture,
Workshop, and Symposium on current social, health and mental health issue.
Poster session, social event, book release will be organized to make the
conference live.
We are sure that the rich scientific program and the Beautiful City will
encourage you to attend the conference and participate actively. We eagerly

Accommodation
Chandigarh has good number of quality hotels both in private sector as well as under
Chandigarh Industrial & Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO). We are not in a position to
provide free accommodation. However, paid accommodation in hotels or guest house can be
arranged by the organizers on prior request.
Transportation
Pick up and drop facility will be provided from Airport/Railway Station and Bus Stand to the
conference venue by the organizers on arrival and departure depending upon the arability of
vehicles.
Hospitality
Three breakfasts, three lunch, one dinner and tea would be extended to all the participants of the
conference on all the days.
Special Event
1. Cultural Programme on 10th February 2017 evening will be organized in the campus by our cultural
committee. Participants willing to take part in the cultural events can kindly request the organizing
secretary in advance for their participation.
2. The ISPSW Annual General Body Meeting will be held at 5.00 PM on 10th February 2017.
3. Visit to GMCH, MHI and GRIID will be arranged during the conference.
4. Delegates will be assisted in local tour of the city.

Norms for Submission and Adjudication of Papers for Award
1. All ISPSW Life members are eligible to contest for various Awards with an exception to the students of
MSW course.
2. The paper consideration for Award must reach the General Secretary of ISPSW on or before 15th
December 2016.
3. Both Hard and Soft copies have to be submitted with a covering letter mentioning clearly the category
under which the paper should be considered for Award.
4. A member who has already received an Award is not eligible to apply under any category for a period of
3 years.
5. The first author only has to make the presentation and he/she should be the Life Member of ISPSW.
6. The paper to be considered for any award must be research based. The first author has to declare that
the paper has not been published in Journal/Magazine or presented in any of the
Conferences/Seminars, either in part or full.
7. There should be a minimum two entries and two presentations for contesting the award. In case there
is only one paper under any category, the author will be allowed only to make presentation and the
award will be differed.
8. A three member committee consisting of ISPSW senior members and professionals from allied
disciplines suggested by the Executive Committee of ISPSW, will evaluate the merit of each paper under
the categories of different awards. However, the Executive Committee will take care in choosing the
experts who are not authors (either first or subsequent) of the contesting papers.
9. The evaluation proforma includes the following components :
a. The importance of the study undertaken in the present context -20%
b. The materials and methodology adopted - 20%
c. Presentation of results - 20%
d. Conclusion and recommendations - 20%
e. The method of presentation and discussions followed - 20%
10. The decision of the Judges will be final, however the Society has the right to decide about the
presentations of an Award with quoting the reason thereof:
a. Faculty Members Faculties working on full time/ regular/contract basis in any recognized College/
University.
b. Research Scholars Pursuing M.Phil or Ph.D. on fulltime / part time basis.
c. Students First or Second year fulltime MSW students from Colleges/Universities.
