Philosophy of Education

Educational Background
My educational background consists of being an intern for one semester in a 6th grade
language arts classroom and another semester in a high school resource classroom. I have been a
student from K-12th grade in public schools, and I am pursuing a Bachelors degree in Secondary
Education English at Arizona State University.
Reason for becoming a teacher
I want to become a teacher to take the education of future students into my own hands
and mold them into capable adults who can be successful in the real world. I strongly disagree
with standardized testing and the No Child Left Behind act, and I want to do away with them
in my classroom if I can. The education that our children are receiving is severely lacking, and I
am to make it better one class at a time.
Diverse Student Populations
Working with diverse students isnt any different than having diverse coworkers or a
mixed family. Children will come from all backgrounds with varying levels of capabilities, and it
is our duty as teachers to cater our lessons to everyone. Each of my lessons will be able to be
differentiated to accommodate for lower and higher level students.
Research-based Discipline
I believe that students respond best to positive reinforcement, just like raising your own
child at home. Negative behaviors should be ignored providing they are not harmful to the
student or others, while positive behavior should be rewarded and made an example of for other
students to follow. This technique works well with children at home and with training animals, so
there is no reason why it shouldnt be used in the classroom as well.
