Discussion:

The table shows the data we gathered during the experiment and the
percentage of the sample retained per sieve. The graph shows the relationship of the
data we gathered and the sieves.

Conclusion:
The results shows little error since the total soil retained in each sieve are
close from the original weight of the sample. It also shows that in the ground
sample we used there is lot of big grains than finer grain. Thus the soil we used is
not good for using in mixes

ACTIVITY 5: SIZE DISTRIBUTION DETERMINATION

LABORATORY REPORT

Prepared by:

Procedure:
1. We arrange the testing sieve according to its size. From bigger screen to
the smallest screen.
2. We put the 200 grams of ground sample in the top most testing sieve.
3. The sieves are then move to a mechanical shaker and left there for 10
minutes.
4. Then the weight of the retained aggregate in each is calculated using
Digital balance.
5. Table of the results is established and the Grading curve is drawn.

Introduction:
This experiment examined the particle-size distribution of soil using Sieve
Analysis Method. The experiment was to determine the percentage passing in each sieve
using Sieve Analysis. Two hundred gram sample were obtained from a pile of air-dried s o i l .
The sample was sieved through a series of sieves with varying opening
s i z e s a n d measured the mass retained in each sieve.

Objectives:
To determine a particular soil grain size distribution.
To be able to plot and analyze the gradation curve of the soil.
