SKILLS TO THE POWER OF THREE

Berlitz teaching focuses on communication. But other skills are needed in the working world in addition to knowledge
of foreign languages. Depending on your needs and personal specifications, there are important and necessary
over- laps, which Berlitz covers with its modern teaching in the three areas of language skills, intercultural skills,
and management and leadership skills.
For example, an international management seminar conducted in English will equip you not only with management
and leadership skills, but also intercultural and language skills. You will then truly be ready for the challenges of
the modern-day business world.

THE WORLD OF LANGUAGES

LANGUAGE TRAINING ACCORDING TO YOUR NEEDS
We can offer all those interested in languages just the right teaching program, be they an experienced manager or
a management trainee, a self-employed person or an employee, a keen traveler, someone with a thirst for
knowledge or an Internet-based learner.
All our programs involve lively dialogue, fun, motivation, excellent teachers and modern content. In other words,
top teaching quality from Berlitz.

EXPERIENCE IN A MODERN GUISE: THE BERLITZ METHOD

This direct method has been at the heart of Berlitz language teaching since 1878. It has been continuously
developed to cater for the latest didactic findings. For example, it is now complemented by personal needs
analysis and the use of new media.
Your own experience and needs are incorporated into the teaching.

The focus is very much on actively speaking. This will automatically help you overcome any inhibitions to
speaking, improve your fluency and boost your motivation.

You will learn grammar naturally based on the situation in the same way that you learned your mother tongue
and that you hear a foreign language when abroad.

Hearing, reading, writing, speaking: at Berlitz, you learn with all the senses. And with the content being taught
using day-to-day situations, you will learn more quickly and what you learn will stick better.

A positive environment allays peoples fears about speaking in public. Small groups, expert and motivational
teachers, and an open atmosphere play a major part in your success.

FOCUS ON THE CUSTOMERS

I`m really glad, that I can attend the German virtual classroom. For me it`s important to understand the
people, who I can`t see - only hear. And this is the right opportunity to improve my communication skills
(understanding and speaking). We have enough possibilities to speak, because there are only 3 classmates
Teachers try to adapt to every lesson and our business requests. They are true professionals.

BERLITZ LEVELS AND CEF

LANGUAGE SKILLS MADE COMPARABLE
The Council of Europes Common European Reference Framework for Languages (CEF) divides language
proficiency into different levels to make the learning of languages and evaluation of language skills more
transparent and comparable. Berlitz will test your language skills before each course for free. The ten Berlitz
levels can then simply be aligned with the CEF levels and the online points scale (for e-learning).

RECOMMENDED COURSE INTENSITY

Three stages with one result: maximum success! Our three-stage intensive learning concept is an option applicable
to our corporate group courses and guarantees quick and lasting learning of your language goals. The concept
begins with a short period of intensive learning, followed by regular follow-up language learning in the form of
weekly lessons and then further intensive learning. This keeps the language fresh in the participants minds and
continuously boosts their confidence in using the language in day-to-day situations.
Stage I: Two days of intensive learning
In the first stage, the course participants are intensively immersed in the foreign language, which they actively
use for at least half of the teaching time. Numerous role-playing exercises and simulations serve to refresh and
build on existing language knowledge.
Intensive confrontation with the foreign language results in the participants speaking and thinking in the target
language in no time, without the need for translation exercises.
Stage II: Weekly lessons
This is when the knowledge acquired during the intensive stage is continuously consolidated, reinforced and built
on.
Stage III: Additional intensive learning days every four to six weeks
Active class-based exercises are used to refresh what has been learned in the weekly lessons with the aim of
then being able to continue to apply this knowledge in practice. Again, the participants use nothing but the target
language all day long and practice work-related situations in particular to fully prepare them for day-to-day
linguistic challenges. This also boosts the participants motivation.
Intensive learning days are ideal for specifically practicing work situations (sales pitches, meetings, lengthy
telephone calls, etc.) in the foreign language in a compact and clearly structured course.

FOCUS ON THE CUSTOMERS

The Berlitz Virtual Classroom (BVC) was a key element in Lilly Critical Care Europe's choice of Berlitz as
a comprehensive language service provider. Had BVC not been an integral part of the Berlitz portfolio of
services it is quite reasonable to suggest that a significant portion of Eli Lilly's needs would have to have
been satisfied by another language service provider. Notwithstanding, the level of service from the Berlitz
Virtual Classroom has been consistent with that received via physical Berlitz Language Centers.
Additionally, those employees engaged in Berlitz Virtual Classroom lessons have responded very favorably
to the medium, interaction and convenience of learning online.

LANGUAGE PROGRAMS
FOR KIDS AND TEENS
FUN WITH FOREIGN LANGUAGES
Fun is the biggest motivator for children and young people and this also applies when learning a language.
For this reason, our language programs are designed in such a way that the participants are actively involved
from the outset for example through exciting role-playing activities, language games, varied exercises and
coverage of age-appropriate topics. Studying vocabulary and grammar is taboo!
Kids and teenagers are divided into small groups according to age (usually 47, 811 and 1217 years) and their prior
level of knowledge. This encourages interaction and ensures a relaxed atmosphere. Rapid learning success helps
them develop their personalities, instills confidence and opens up new possibilities at school or in their subsequent career choice.
Our language programs at a glance:
Kids and Teens weekly courses: regular weekly lessons
Kids and Teens holiday courses: daily lessons for an entire week during school holiday (Monday to Friday)

Kids and Teens Individual Instruction: intensive one-to-one language lessons at a Berlitz Center or in the
Berlitz Virtual Classroom

Kids and Teens Camps: Kids and teens benefit from the best possible combination of language learning and
recreation during the school holiday in many exciting locations.
Program benefits

Educationally sound concept for motivated, easy learning

Age-appropriate topics and modern course materials
Small groups with specially trained native-speaker language teachers or one-to-one lessons
Ideal preparation for or supplement to language lessons at school

BERLITZ LANGUAGE CAMPS DURING SUMMER TIME

Language study trips in combination with attractive leisure and sports activities are the secret to the success
of our popular Berlitz camps. Held throughout Europe, the camps allow seven- to 17-year-olds to actively learn

they go to bed is the target language!
Motivational lessons in the morning encourage the participants to speak. And in the afternoons and evenings,
they continue to learn without realizing it during a wide array of activities. When can we expect to see your child
there?
The language teaching concept

Participants are grouped according to their linguistic abilities at the start of the camp
Language lessons in small groups of between eight and (maximum) 12 participants
Four 45-minute lessons a day with qualified language teachers

All the participants receive a Berlitz certificate at the end of the camp

Program benefits

SEMINAR LEARNING PATHS

THE PERFECT COMBINATION OF VARIOUS SEMINAR TOPICS
The global challenges of the modern-day working world often call for multi-layered know-how that cannot usually
be fully covered in a single seminar. We therefore offer all our seminars as learning paths, too, comprising three
steps that follow on from each other logically and that combine various topics to get you up to speed in your
chosen area of expertise.
On the following pages, you will find an overview of nine such learning paths. We can, of course, also happily put

CULTURE AND CULTURAL

DIMENSIONS
WHAT IS CULTURE?
There are many possible definitions of "culture". Thinking of culture in terms of a people or society it can be defined
as a shared system of attitudes, values, ideas, customs, beliefs and behavior. Our culture is also influenced by
education, geography and history. But not all of our behavior is determined by culture, e.g. our individual personality
plays a major role.
Intercultural communication is complex
There is always a complex interplay between culture in all its forms, the individual and the situation.
To understand your business partners, you need to know about their personalities and cultural background and
consider the situation you are in: Is the market booming or slowing down? Are they customers or suppliers? What
is the relationship to your partners?

CULTURAL DIMENSIONS
Interaction Style
The Interaction Style dimension contains the cultural orientations that impact how people tend to interact and
communicate in the workplace.

6 LEVELS OF CULTURE
Organizational Culture
Corporate mergers and acquisitions frequently deliver below expectations, partly because cultural differences
are significantly underestimated and the cultural dynamics in an M&A experience are misunderstood.
Individual Culture
The building blocks of culture at any level are present in both intrapersonal and interpersonal dynamics. Through
awareness and understanding of cultural conditioning, clients develop global leaders that drive change and
transformation.
Team Culture
The need to manage across time zones, language, technology, and a broad spectrum of cultural differences to
create a team culture is no small feat. Intact teams and interdependent work groups develop a shared team
culture to optimize collaboration across time zones, languages, technology, and cultural differences.
National/Societal Culture
Companies focus on opportunities in emerging markets to develop awareness of culturally conditioned behavior
and cultural dynamics and patterns by nationality.
Functional Culture
Cross-functional product or management teams manage and leverage their differences carefully, bridging
distinct cultural differences across their constituent units, creating a strong collective identity.
Social Identity Groups
The diversification of society has made differences by gender, generation, ethnicity, religious beliefs, affiliations,
and socio-economic class increasingly relevant. Diversity initiatives recognize the cultural context of gender,
racial/ethnic, generational and other social groups to leverage their unique contributions.

WORKING IN VIRTUAL TEAMS

NEW WORK TECHNIQUES FOR A NEW AGE
As work becomes more global and more flexible, it makes a significant impact on team structures and work methods. Virtual teams are increasingly replacing direct daily contact in the office. This is resulting in new communication, organization and management challenges: in addition to there being barriers of a spatial, time-based and often
also linguistic nature, the team members can also represent cultural differences.
The participants are given an insight into the advantages and risks of virtual cooperation and develop rules for
virtual and intercultural communication. Exercises help them to avoid communication pitfalls and to work on
projects together successfully, in spite of the spatial distance between team members.

CHANGE MANAGEMENT
TAKING THE STING OUT OF CHANGE PROCESSES
Nothing is as constant as change, and it is happening increasingly often at ever-shorter intervals. Companies
are forced to adapt rapidly to survive in the marketplace, making change management a motivational task.
Change processes tend to be unpopular within a company, as the unknown initially causes pressure and uncertainty
among staff.
This is exactly where this seminar comes into play. It shows how to assign responsibility to teams, and how
employees can grow as individuals through these change processes. Learn practical ways to encourage
communication, innovation, creativity and effective networking within your company. Develop strategies to actively
include employees in the change process and motivate them to assume responsibility. This forms the basis for

MY PERSONAL RESILIENCE @WORK

BUILD UP YOUR MENTAL STRENGTH
Most of us experience opposition, setbacks and stress in our daily work due to increasing pressure to perform,
interpersonal complications or simply the number of tasks we have to complete. Resilience is the mental strength
a person needs in order to come out of a crisis stronger. And the good news is that resilience can be learned.
If people use certain mental techniques and positive routines, they are able to more happily tackle their day-to-day
lives, even during a crisis. In this seminar, the participants find out what being resilient is all about. They assess
themselves and discover their own best-practice strategies for greater resilience at work. The seminar also offers

CREATIVITY TECHNIQUES
THIS SEMINAR IS A GOOD IDEA
Faced with innovation and change processes, increasingly demanding customers and ever-tougher competition,
creativity is a key resource for any company. However, routines, tunnel vision and the urgency of day-to-day
business activities frequently inhibit existing creativity potential and prevent us from tackling tasks in new ways.
And yet there is creativity that lies dormant in all of us its simply a question of tapping it. The secret to this is to
push inhibitions aside, take the road less traveled and be open to new things.
In this seminar, you will learn how to get out of the rut of having the same thought processes and approaches
again and again. With the aid of both tried-and-tested and innovative creativity techniques, you will break
through established patterns to see things from a different perspective, enabling you to recognize a problem
more precisely, come up with new ideas and systematize your solution approaches. At the same time, you will

HOW TO RESOLVE CONFLICTS 1

A VICTORY WITH NO LOSERS

become a problem for everyone. Those involved can then quickly lose sight of the shared company goals. Whats
the right way to handle disputes within a team and fundamentally improve working relations?
You will start by analyzing your own behavior in conflict situations using self-analysis and then develop effective

can you tackle tricky situations professionally and deal with the parties of the conflict?
One of the primary objectives of this seminar is to have the opportunity to practice. After brief revision of the first

DEALING WITH CHANGE

BECAUSE THERES NOTHING MORE CONSTANT THAN CHANGE
Change is becoming something routine. Rapid changes to customer needs, corporate strategies, products,
processes, structures and work conditions do not always constitute a positive challenge for our flexibility and can
sometimes be overwhelming. It therefore stands to reason that not all change is initially welcomed with open
arms.
This seminar takes a look at change from the perspective not of the management, but of the employees in other
words, from the perspective of those who are directly affected by change. The participants are given an overview
of the key terms and the most frequent causes of change within a company. The focus is on the development of
personal strategies for improving your own attitude towards change and your behavioral patterns within your
direct work environment.

TURNING MEETINGS INTO YOUR FAVORITE DISCIPLINE
It takes a high degree of personal, social, organizational and methodical expertise to prepare and conduct meetings
efficiently and expediently. Its never just about the matter at hand: its also always a question of the willingness to
work, the communication and the dynamic within the team.
Practical knowledge of discussion types and work stages helps the participants to conduct work meetings in a
structured manner. Moderation techniques serve as tried-and-tested tools with which to delegate tasks,

HOW TO GIVE AND RECEIVE

FEEDBACK
SO THAT PEOPLE TAKE THINGS THE RIGHT WAY
Feedback is needed in daily work processes and meetings in order for everyone to work towards the same goals.
Constructive feedback helps you to modify your self-perception and check your behavior. But while good
feedback can be extremely helpful, carelessly made criticism can be highly destructive as it results in defense and
therefore conflict.
In order for feedback to be well received and for it to have an effect, the participants start by examining their own
communication styles and then familiarize themselves with the rules of feedback for both the giver and receiver.
They learn techniques for respectful communication and practice them in partner and group exercises.
