General Observations
It involved the following field activities; Inspection of Real Life projects and also to ascertain
the number of trainees, the structure of implementation whether group or individual and the
progress. Collection of information which will be used during the assessment of the project and
held meetings with the principals and instructors to discuss the feedback and guidance on the
assessment of the project. The exercise also involved discussions of the issues of concern faced
by the instructors and final remarks by the heads of institutions.
It was observed that most of the projects are implemented in groups. The number of candidates is
too big compared to the projects that were being carried out in the institutions hence others do
not participate, however care should be taken to make sure that students attain equity and full
participation in the project work. In some institutions the projects were complete and in some
instances were finalizing. Materials are normally procured late which makes the students to
1

concentrate on the projects in the last months of the year instead of the time allocation specified
in the curriculum.
Challenges faced by the institutions in the implementation of real life projects
1. Inadequate Funds to facilitate the implementation of the projects.
2. Inadequate facilities for workshop practice for example equipment, computers, projectors
etc.
3. The method of releasing government grants delays the implementation of projects, it was
suggested that it should be done every beginning of term.
4. Some of the products of the real life projects are consumed or utilized by the institutions
or community before inspection is done.
5. Implementation of real life projects is expensive for the institutions to implement every
term.
6. Delayed payment of fees by the students makes it difficult to fund the real life project
work.
7. Serious drought throughout the year affected NCA projects.

Recommendations

There is need to carry out this activity early enough so that the institutions are advised and

guided early enough.

The Board should always give feedback to institutions about projects.
New centers should be closely monitored to ensure that they are implementing the curricula

correctly and using proper facilities and qualified lecturers.

There should be flexibility in the choice of real life projects by Institutions which projects
should address the immediate needs of the Institutions and within the professional practices

of each programme.
Retooling of the instructors
Institutions would like to charge government students to help in facilitating the real life

project
Invention, innovation and creativity should be encouraged to boast the skills imparted to the

students.
The presentations of projects needs capacity building to be done to representatives of

learning institutions.
The board should work with the institutions to identify viable projects and assessment
guidelines to be passed out to institutions for implementation so as to achieve uniformity
assessment throughout the country.

Conclusion
Despite the challenges faced by the team, the exercise was completed as scheduled. It is expected
that the information collected will be used during the assessment and feedback should be given
to institutions.
