1.To familiarise Ss with the PET exam layout and content. Speaking and
reading, part 2 of writing.
2. Get to know Ss
3. Revise question formation and 3rd person S.

Procedures

Introduction
Revise question
formation.

Stage 1
Revise 3rd person S.

Stage 2

Time

Introduce self. Write name on board. 7 answers


to personal questions around name, eg. 7 or
purple. Elicit Qs from Ss. Ss write their name in
8-10 mins
books with 7 facts about themselves. In pairs,
Ss ask each other Qs. Whole class feedback, S
talks about partners facts.
Ask Ss what other getting to know you
questions they know. Tell Ss Speaking part 1
includes these types of questions. Ss ask each
other the questions. Encourage elaboration on
answers. Ss change pairs and tell new partner
about previous partner. Monitor for errors. Ask
Ss if they discovered anything interesting.
Board errors. In pairs, Ss correct errors. Elicit
corrections from class.

Show Ss example exam paper, starting with


speaking. Show Ss speaking part 1 and 2.

Speaking part 2- ask Ss how we negotiate.


Elicit- asking questions, agreeing and
disagreeing, talking about advantages and
disadvantages of each option. Ss try example.
Monitor. Delayed error correction. Ss correct
errors in pairs.

Speaking part 3- elicit what Ss have to do.


Show picture, Ss describe as class. T writes key
grammar and vocab Ss must use as Ss give
egs. -present cont. modal verbs adjectives.
Remind Ss we use modal verbs to express
possibility- age, mood etc.
Ss describe sample picture in pairs.
10- 15 mins
Monitor. Delayed error correction, minor errors
instant error correction.
Whole class FB.

Speaking part 4- elicit what Ss have to do. In


pairs or alone? T gives Ss example task, elicits
what Ss could talk about. Boards.
Ss try in pairs.
T monitors, notes errors. T boards common
errors. Ss correct alone. Class correction.

Reading part 1- show Ss example given then Ss


try 2 questions. Ss check with partner. Whole

Stage 6

Show Ss reading part 2, 3 and 4. Each time


elicit what Ss have to do.

Stage 7

Show Ss reading part 5- Ss try in groups.


Address difficult words and check for items that 10-15 mins
may impede learning. CCQs. Whole class FB.

Stage 8

Show Ss writing part 2 example question,

show Ss how to structure on board and elicit
example sentences for each bullet point. In
pairs Ss write an answer. Monitor. Ss read their
answers aloud. Note errors. Write errors on
board. Ss correct as class.
Give Ss another writing part 2 question for hw.
You receive an invitation to your friend John's
wedding. Write a message to thank John.

In your message you should:


-thank John for the invitation
-congratulate him on the wedding
-suggest meeting up next week
