HEALTHCARE IN DUBAI
Page 69
Dubai has a solid healthcare infrastructure. In Dubai, the government hospitals offer a
high standard of care, however there is also a rapidly growing private sector.
Dubai Healthcare City, which has more than 90 medical facilities including hospitals, clinics,
pharmacies, research facilities and so on. Many foreign-trained expats are employed in both the
government (public) and private healthcare sector, and English is commonly spoken in hospitals
and medical centers.
Healthcare standards in the UAE are considered to be generally high resulting from strong
economic spend of the government. According to the UAE government, total expenditures on
health care from 1996 to 2003 were US$436 million.
With the steady population growth, high per capita income, increased health awareness and the
rising prevalence of lifestyle diseases, its not hard to see why the demand for quality health care
is growing across the UAE.
The country has been through a tremendous increase in the demand for health-care services, which
also indicates high health-care spending.
There have been increased opportunities for growth in the UAE and a number of major
international players have entered the market in the last few years, which have raised the standards
offered in the country. Top global companies have established state of the art facilities in the
country with the encouragement of the UAE government, and have created a hub for regional
dental tourists.

OMPLICATIONS
Page 83
Heat This one is the most obvious. If you despise the heat, forget about moving to
Dubai. It is hot 8 months of the year with humidity soaring up to more than 90% at the
peak of summer. But since all of the buildings including residences have centralized air
conditioning system, it wont be much of a problem. Sometimes, it would be difficult to walk to
work even if you live nearby.
Multi-cultural experience While this can be a good thing for others, but there are people who
do not like to work with other nationalities but their own. And if are one of them, than there is a
problem. There are cultures and working styles to adjust.
Driving It is said that there are 200 different nationalities living in Dubai. And there is almost
no courtesy in the roads, some drivers (specially natives) are rogue and never give way.
Noise Dubai is a city thats not finished yet. Its a work in progress everyday with construction
going on left and right contrary to what youve read in the tabloids that bash Dubai like its a
new Olympic sport, its not a ghost town around here.
So if you live or work in a construction area, expect noise pollution. Or when you reside near a
construction area, be prepared to be startled all day long! * The construction area is what we look
out for when looking for a place to live here. We prefer away from it.
Second class citizen You are in another country not your own so that categorizes you as a guest
and in some cases, second class citizens, always next to locals or the white people (especially if
Page 84
you are an INDIAN). Youll be treated with good hospitality, yes but always be aware
of your boundaries and memorize the line: This is their country, not mine.
Whatever the reason or wherever you choose to go to live or work theres always two sides of the
coin and there are other reasons to work here and not to..
THATS ALL FOLKS !!
Page 85
