The Hoagland Lab will attend the Annual Meetings of the Soil, Crop and Agronomy Societies of America next week in
Phoenix, AZ. They will give the following presentations.
Lisseth Zubieta - Identification of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal species that help soybeans tolerate water stress
Xiaojun Zhao Improving soil quality and suppressing Phytophthora blight with forest industry byproducts
Casey Martin and Sahar Abdelrazek You dont have to go home but you carrot stay here: Biological control of the
root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) in carrots
Judith Martin Breaking new ground with hop production in Indiana: Trellis systems and varietal effects
Lori Hoagland - Fertility amendments alter soil health and affect susceptibility to Rhizoctonia solani in intensively
managed high tunnel production systems.
Mindy Appold's LA 325 Planting Design 2, is working on a service learning project with St. Peter's Episcopal Church, in
Lebanon, IN. On November 2, the students met with the congregation on site. The church has community gardens and
managed bee hives on their property and the students will be creating a pollinator friendly landscape design. They are
presenting their designs on November 28th.

Jian-Kang Zhu was presented the Herbert Newby McCoy Award at the Excellence in Research Awards Dinner on October
31. Earlier in the day, Jian-Kang presented a Distinguished Lecture on Decoding the Epigenetic Language of Life.
An interview with Hye-Ji Kim was featured in November 3, 2016 issue of Morning Ag Clips for her expertise in
aquaponics. The article is titled: Farming Method Produces Fish and Veggies. Congratulations, Hye-Ji!
Dan Egel is also featured in an article on the 2016 pumpkin crop. Congratulations Dan!

Bruce Bordelon, Paul Howard, Tristand Tucker and the Purdue Wine Grape Team were featured in the November 4,
