On this
wonderful evening, I would like to present on the topic why engineering
student should register in IEM and I want all of you who are studying in
engineering to register in this organization. Before I start my presentation,
I would like to introduce myself, my name is Dineshkumar s/o
G.Ramachandran, Im currently 2nd 1st in chemical engineering and also Im
the director corporate relation department in IEM-UTP-Student Section.
Today Im qualified enough to talk about this organization because Im one
of the member in IEM. Besides that I also had been following all the events
and news conducted by IEM.
This will be the preview of my todays presentation. At first will be an
introduction to IEM, followed by objective, then basic needs. After that
would be the benefits, some testimonials, registration and finally Q&A
session.
IEM, since just now Ive been telling the word IEM, does anyone what is
IEM? IEM stands for the institution of engineers Malaysia. So what IEM is
doing? IEM is founded in 1959 and is a non-governmental organization. Is
just like this, this is government, where under it will be BEM, which is
board of engineers Malaysia, this is under government, where every
engineers have to register in it. Under this BEM is IEM. Some of you might
think why we dont just register in BEM. The reason is, if you go directly to
BEM they will ask you to go IEM 1st, cause BEM just an organization for
registration but in IEM they will conduct lots beneficial activities for the
engineers. IEM is one of the biggest and professional organizational in
Malaysia. IEM is the one who qualifies a professional engineer by
conducting professional interviews and assessments. Besides that you can
register with IEM before graduate and get all the benefits which Ill brief
later. Students who are register in this organization must be related to
engineer field such as computer engineering, mechanical engineering,
aeronautical engineering and so on.
The main reason why Im standing here and you all need to listen to this
presentation is I care for your future. Usually after graduate students dont
know where to go, whether is a correct or a wrong path. Then they
become confused. For example I got an engineer friend who studies for
mechanical engineer but end up working in an office and a clerk but not as
an engineer. Basically he had wasted all his time studying for engineering
which I one of the toughest field. So friends, dont choose a wrong path
like him, be part of IEM members and get all the benefits.
As a student or fresh graduates, what do you we want? I had point out 3
main points which is organizational support and guidance, personal
development and lastly will be working class exposure. A good
organization is needed because where they could guide us towards a
better life without stuck in confusion. Sometimes the events or seminars
organized by an organization are very useful especially towards our

working life and improve our personal development. As an engineer you

need to be professional enough because as the time pass by youll be
meet and senior executives engineers for the companies. If there is no
professionalism in you, people might look down you which makes your
world class working exposure become less.

So today, in this wonderful organization called IEM basically they providing

lots beneficial things starting from student itself. Once you are registered
under IEM youll be give a membership card which is usable until you
retired. During your convocation, on your graduation certificate will be
given a title of Engr.So people will look up upon you compare to friends
who dont have that title. Is like this.. Graduates who are getting that
title are known as professional engineers by the industries. IEM provide
participation in continuing education through seminars, workshops,
conference, talks, forum, courses and others for the fellow engineers,
basically to improve their personal skills. Besides that IEM also act like a
bridge where you can access to a wide network of fellow engineers in the
private and public sectors in Malaysia as well as regional and international
engineering bodies. Moreover IEM have a strong secretariat to support
needs of fellow members and provide all the guidance.
Until now u had heard all the benefits, however surely there will be some
of you might think am I telling the truth. To clear that doubt, I would like to
show some testimonial from a student and a working adult. First will

To register in IEM, first you need to fill up the form as shown here or he
form which Ive distributed just now. Once you already filled up u can
passed it personally to IEM or u can pass through IEM-UTP-SS. The fee to
register under this organisation is rm20/year or rm50/5 years. Once the
registration is done, a confirmation letter will be sent to your email.
I hope all of you have a clear vision on this organisation, the purpose, the
benefit and process of joining this organization. Before I end my
presentation today I would like to summarise my presentation. First will be
the purpose, once you are graduated the will be many field of work, u
might get stuck or get confused. So by joining IEM they will provide you a
full guidance in becoming a professional engineer. To be part of it the
