SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION

WARNING
Do not work inside the
equipment unless totally
familiar with electrical
circuits.
Hazardous voltage which can
cause electrical shock, burn
or serious injury exists inside
the equipment.
Do not approach the
radome closer than 60 cm
when it is transmitting.
Microwave radiation can
cause severe injury or illness.
Radiation level:
10 W/m2 at 60 cm
Turn off the power at the
mains switchboard before
beginning the installation.
Post a sign near the switch
to indicate it should not be
turned on while the equipment is being installed.

Ground the equipment to

prevent electrical shock
and mutual interference.
Confirm that the power supply voltage
is compatible with the voltage rating
of the equipment.
Connection to the wrong power supply
can cause fire or equipment damage. The
voltage rating appears on the label at the
rear of the display unit.

3. MOUNTING THE EQUIPMENT

5) Avoid the location near funnels and stacks;
smoke and soot on the radome can lower signal level.

Mounting Location
Antenna unit
1) Mount the omnidirectional antenna high atop
a mast clear of stays and the turning diameter of a radar scanner. The ideal mounting
location would be where no obstacle appears
in the fore and aft directions down to -5 and
down to -15 in the port and starboard directions. This concept is illustrated in
Figure 3-1. Shadow sector of the antenna
mast, whip antenna, etc. should be within 2
degrees at one meter from the antenna unit.

6) Never mount the antenna unit on a metal

plate more than 20 cm square. Use the antennal mounting pipe (supplied), or fix or
weld it to a bracket as shown below.

Communication unit
1) The communication unit can be installed almost anywhere provided the location satisfies the following conditions:
The ambient temperature is between
-15C and +55C.
Avoid installing the unit near air conditioners
and hot air vents.
Select a location free of water splash and rain.
Select a location where vibration is minimal.
Locate the unit well away from magnetic
fields (generator, etc.).
Keep the unit out of direct sunlight.

2. Weld the antenna mounting pipe (supplied)

to the antenna mast. (more than 60 ).
3. Fix the cable assembly N-H1054 (supplied)
to the antenna unit.
4. Wrap the connector at the antenna base with
self-bonding tape to waterproof it.

2) The communication unit can be installed on

a tabletop or a bulkhead. For bulkhead
mounting be sure the mounting location is
strong enough to support the weight of the
unit (4 kg) under the continued condition of
vibration normally encountered onboard the
vessel.

Wrap with self-bonding tape

to waterproof.

3) Leave at least 150 mm at the rear of the unit

to permit easy access to connectors.
Terminal unit
1) Observe installation guideline 1) above.
2) The installation angle must not be greater
than 15 to prevent disk drive malfunction.
Distress alert unit
Two units should be installed and one should
be installed near the steering place.

procedure
1. Locally prepare an antenna mast with a

5. INSTALLATION OF GPS BOARD

ASSEMBLY (OPTION)
A GPS receiver board can be installed in the
Communication Unit IC-212. There are two
kind of GPS board assemblies: OP16-16-1 and
OP16-16-2. The former is fitted at factory; the
latter in the field. Here, installation of the latter
is explained.
