Why need Standard Method of

Measurement ???
X

CESSM3

Principles of measurement provide a uniform

basis for measuring bills of quantities

Forth Procedure according to which the

BOQ shall be prepared and priced and the
quantities of work expressed and measured.

The objects of bills of

quantities are:

The objects of bills of

quantities are:

To assist in the accurate preparation of

tenders, by providing for measurement of
quantities on a uniform basis

To provide such information of the quantities

of work as to enable tenders to be prepared
efficiently and accurately

To provide a basis for the financial control of

a project, in accordance with the conditions
of contract.

When a contract has been entered into, to

provide for use of the priced BOQ in the
valuation of work executed.

Pipe Laying

Features of BOQ as per CESSM3

Work should be itemised with
Sufficient detail to distinguish between the different
class of work.

Building
150mm dia Pipe

Sufficient detail to identify same nature of work in

different locations or other circumstances where give
rise to different consideration of cost. Example pipe
laying

Road

How to measure total pipe length ??

One Item or Two Item, Why ??

Consistent, Simple and brief as possible .

Work which is expressly required should be covered.
