Read the extracts from letters on a problem page in a teen magazine. Then, read the reply
Dear Maggie
A
Dear ................
I am sorry to hear that you feel like this. Sometimes just thinking positively can go
a long way towards helping the situation.
Trust your friends. They see the person you are and it is your character and
personality that matter. What is important is how you think and behave. Concentrate
on that and let the dermatologist concentrate on the problem. Eat a healthy diet and
get plenty of rest and fresh air. These can help in many ways, including making you
feel better about yourself. Keep smiling, because everyone looks great when they
smile and it feels good too!
I hope my advice helps.
Yours,
Maggie

Students play in pairs. Photocopy and cut up one sheet of words for each pair. You can prepare
different cards with articles, nouns and adjectives on them if required. Ask one student to shuffle
the cards and share them out. The aim is to create sentences with two or more adjectives in their
correct order.

GAME
Divide the class into two groups. Students prepare cards in the following two areas: Grammar
(will/going to/conditionals) and Vocabulary and put them in two different boxes. Both groups
place their counters on the START box. Students take it in turns to roll the dice and match the
number on the dice to one of the topics. Students move their counter according to the number
rolled on the dice. They need to complete the sentences or answer the questions. If they give
acceptable answers, they stay where they are. If not, they move backwards one space. The first
group to reach the FINISH box wins.

I would like to offer a different idea: how about safaris? The animals are protected
and you can see them in their natural environment. All in all, zoos can be pleasant places
to spend a few hours and can help some endangered animals. However, animals that
were born free should be able to live free.
B
Zoos give you the chance to be close to wonderful animals, like bears and snakes,
some species of which do not exist in the wild any more. This is a completely different
experience to seeing a documentary on TV! You can learn about the animals, and
sometimes even feed them. Zoos keep animals alive that are not able to survive in the
wild.
As long as the animals are well looked after, visiting a zoo can be a fun day out
C
for all the family. I used to go every year with my grandparents. However, I wonder how
the animals feel about being in cages.
On the other hand, some zoos keep the animals in small boxes. Occasionally, the
D
animals living area are dirty or overcrowded. Sometimes the animals have to do tricks
and perform like in circuses. Animals are intelligent and they have feelings too. Maybe
they do not like being locked up inside cages. It is unnatural for them.

Play in teams of three. Prepare 20 cards with active and passive sentences on them. For each
round of the game, give each team a card. The team members work together to change the
sentence from active to passive, or vice versa. Students have 30 seconds to produce the correct
sentence. If the sentence is correct, their team gets 5 points. If the sentence is wrong or the
students have not produced an answer within the time limit, their team loses 2 points. The
