Manual

2 Installation
2.1 General
The CJC Filter System must be mounted on a correctly dimensioned bracket capable of carrying the
system and keeping it in a fixed position under all conditions. The installation must allow for safe
maintenance of the CJC Filter System, e.g. replacement of filter inserts.
The CJC Filter System must be connected to the main system by independent suction and return lines.
The filter suction line should be connected to the lowest and most contaminated position, e.g. the drain
plug of the system tank. The filter return line should be led back into the tank close to the suction pipe of
the system pump, and preferably below the oil surface to minimise splashing and reduce oxidation of the
oil.
In order to facilitate servicing of the CJC Filter System, it is advisable to install ball valves on suction
and return lines.
NOTE!
Installation must always be carried out by qualified personnel.

2.3 Installation
It is the customers responsibility that the CJC Filter System is installed correctly.
Torques
NOTE!
Please refer to torque table in appendices
2.3.1

Piping

Mount the CJC Filter System to the bracket, using bolts of class 8.8 or higher. To ensure that the oil
filter system will stay in place even when vibrations occur, the usage of bolts with glue is recommended.
NOTE!
Only use fittings with cylindrical thread in filter or pump.
NOTE!
Never use galvanized or copper fittings/pipes when installing the CJC Filter System.
The connection pipes should be as short as possible. In order to avoid large pressure drops, the inner
diameter of the pipes must be increased if the length of pipes is more than 3 metres.
Suction pressure must be above -0.5 bar.
Discharge head must be below 0.5 bar.
NOTE!
In order to avoid damage to the pump, make sure all pipes are free of metal particles and
other contaminations before connecting the filter system.
Hoses suitable for use with the system fluid can be used instead of pipes. When using hoses for the
installation, they must comply with the same specifications as for pipes.
If the CJC Filter System is to be installed in a site where frequent low temperatures can influence fluid
characteristics, we recommended insulation of pipes.
2.3.2

Water outlet

Water outlet pipe from water discharger must be drained to an oily water collecting tank in a nonpressurized drain pipe (atmospheric pressure).
NOTE!
Discharged water is contaminated with oil and must NOT be drained to general sewage.

Electrical connection

WARNING
ELECTRICAL SHOCK
Make sure that the power supply is safely disconnected before carrying out any wiring
work!
Work on electric equipment must only be carried out by qualified personnel!
Verify that system voltage matches equipment voltage ratings before connection. Refer to the nameplate
on the control panel when sizing power supply wire.
Voltage (AC/DC) tolerance is +/- 5%.
Frequency tolerance is +/- 2%.
Connect the electric motor power supply as shown in the wiring diagram in this instruction manual. It is
the customers responsibility that the electrical equipment is connected with a cable of the correct
dimension and that the electrical equipment is properly protected.

WARNING
OVERHEATING OF MOTOR
Overheating of the motor is a potential fire risk.
Protection of motors against overheating must be provided as either overtemperature protection by connecting thermistors or overload protection by means
of thermal overload relay.

WARNING
ELECTRICAL SHOCK
Different electrical potential between adjacent machinery may cause electrical shock.
The CJC Filter System must be supplied with power from the same source as the
adjacent machinery or connected by an equipotential bonding wire.
NOTE!
When connected ensure that the motor has the same direction of rotation as the arrow on
the fan cover. Continuous operation with wrong rotation causes no flow in the system and
damage shaft seal of pump.
NOTE!
If rotation direction for three phase motor is wrong, safely disconnect power supply and
switch two of the phases.

3 Commissioning, operation and service

The CJC Filter System is equipped with a pressure switch which stops the pump in the event of
excessive pressure inside the filter housing.
If the CJC Filter System has been ordered without a pressure switch, check system regularly.
In order to protect the CJC Filter System, the pump is equipped with an internal or external bypass
valve. The bypass valve protects against pulsating excessive pressure, and is not designed for protection
of constant pressure increase.
NOTE!
If fluid passes through the bypass valve for a prolonged period, it will cause heating up of
the pump and fluid which destroys the pump and fluid.
The following can cause an alarm and will stop the pump:
High pressure.
Leak detection
Motor protection

3.1 If preheaters are installed

If the CJC Filter System is fitted with preheater(s), switch preheater(s) on after 3 minutes of operation
and check whether it powers up.
At planned stops, switch off the electrical preheater and let the system run for 3 minutes in order to cool
down the preheater. Please note, that preheaters can only be active when the pump is running.
The thermostat and high temperature cut-out switch are placed in the top of the preheater. If the
temperature needs to be adjusted, remove the top cover and turn the setscrew to the desired
temperature. If high temperature cut-out has been activated, the preheater is switched off.
The high temperature cut-out is reset manually, remove the top cover and pressing the thermostat reset
button.

3.2 Starting the filter system
1. Open inlet and outlet valves (if fitted)
2. Check that the drain valve is closed
3. Remove the vent screw of the float housing and pour 2-3 ltr. of water into the housing until the
lamp HIGH WATER LEVEL is lit
4. Start the pump
5. If the filter is equipped with a vent screw on the top of the filter housing,
a. Open vent screw immediately after the pump has been started
b. Close the vent screw as soon as liquid appears
c. Vent the filter again after approximately one hour of operation
6. If the filter is fitted with automatic de-aerator:
a. Observe that the venting process is correctly stopped
7. Check for leaks

3.3 Normal operation and service

Pressure drop across the filter insert varies with the oil viscosity, but is usually <0.3 bar. However, it is not
unusual for the pressure to be somewhat higher during the first hour of operation until temperature and
flow conditions have stabilized.
It is crucial for the CJC Filter System performance that it is in continuous operation, and that the
condition of the filter insert is maintained and monitored by applying both of following routines.
3.3.1

Filter insert change based on service time 12 months

The CJC Filter Insert will retain oil degradation products and oxidation by-products to a level, at which it
becomes saturated. It is not possible to indicate this saturation, since it has insignificant influence on
pressure drop across the filter insert.
NOTE!
In order to maintain optimal filter performance, the filter inserts must be changed at least
once per year.
3.3.2

Filter insert change due to high pressure 1.8 bar

As particles are deposited in and on the CJC Filter Insert and water is absorbed the flow resistance
increases causing increased pressure drop across the filter insert. The flow resistance is monitored by the
pressure gauge.
If the CJC Filter System is fitted with a minimess test point, connect pressure gauge to the minimess
test point located on top of the filter housing and read the pressure.
NOTE!
In order to maintain optimal filter performance the filter insert must be changed before the
pressure reaches 1.8 bar.

3.4 Stop
Stop the pump and close the inlet and outlet valves (if fitted).
For service or repair, safely disconnect the power supply for the filter system.

Start-up and maintenance of Switchboards

delivered by Titech Electric A/S
Before start-up.
1. Visual inspection. Make sure that the switchboard has not been damaged during the transport.
2. All screw terminals on components in the switchboard should be retightened.
3. Visual inspection. Make sure that all wires are connected properly in the terminal strip.
4. Adjust all thermal overload relays, circuit breakers, measuring instruments.
(All scales are set to lowest value.)

Maintenance instructions.
By preventive maintenance of switchboards, which should be done at least once a year, the
checkpoints below could be a guidance.
1. Visual inspection. Check that the switchboard is intact.
2. Cleaning of switchboard/plant. Ventilating apertures should be cleaned for dust and mud,
change or vacuum clean filter if necessary.
3. All screw terminals on components and bus-bar connections should be retightened.
4. Actuate all switches. This is very important and should be done frequently.
5. Make a thermo-graphic check of important contact spots on components and bus-bar
connections
6. Check switch components for operation time and exchange if any have exceeded maximum
operating time.
7. High voltage- and insulation-test. Remember to switch off all electronics, control circuits and
outgoing power circuits.
8. Test alarm- and control functions.
9. If the switchboard had been exposed to extreme condition (such as damage by fire or water,
lightning or high short-circuit current), it ought to be inspected and checked according to the
above checkpoints. Defect components should be changed.

The modular terminal block system

CLIPLINE complete

System features | Fast connection

Material properties

Connection principle

The patented contact metals of the

QT fast connection terminal blocks consist
of a special, high-grade copper alloy. This
combines good electrical conductivity with
excellent elastic characteristics.
The surface of the metal parts is
protected by a lead-free, galvanic nickel or
tin plating.
The insulating housings of the fast
connection terminal blocks are made of
recyclable PA 6.6. This elastic plastic with
high impact strength is halogen-free and
UV-resistant. Further characteristics are
the good tropical and termite resistance,
high chemical resistance and the excellent
aging characteristics. Polyamide 6.6 can
be used with operating temperatures of
up to 130 C and is certified for the
inflammability class V0 in accordance with
UL 94.

QUICKON modular terminal blocks

are designed for fast conductor
connection. Stripping and fitting splicing
protection are no longer necessary; the
conductors only have to be cut to the
correct length and can then be contacted
within seconds.
An important characteristic is the
space-saving displacement connection.
Due to the simplicity of the connection,
the wiring time is reduced by up to 60%.
During operation with a standard
screwdriver, the switching states are
clearly signaled by engagement points at
the start and end position.
Solid and stranded conductors of 0.25
to 2.5 mm2 can be wired without aids such
as guide ferrules.
When a conductor is connected, the
conductor insulation is cut open, displaced
and the conductor is securely engaged
in the end position where it makes
large-area, gas-tight contact.
The high quality of the QUICKON fast
connection is verified by the fact that this
connection is certified in accordance with
the standard for Ex e applications, as are
the screw and spring-cage connections.

CJC Pressure Gauge

For CJC Fine Filter and Filter Separators

CJC Product Sheet - Accessories

APPLICATION

The CJC Pressure Gauge is used to monitor pressure drop over the filter system. The
Pressure Gauge is suitable for use on CJC
Fine Filters and Filter Separators.
The Pressure Gauge Kit for Mini Mess can
be used on CJC Filters that are equipped
with a Mini Mess Test Coupling.

The CJC Pressure Gauge

FUNCTION

The Pressure Gauge provides an indication of

pressure drop and when to replace the filter
insert(s). As contaminants are captured and
retained by the filter, the result is an increase
of pressure caused by resistance to flow. It is
advisable to replace the filter insert(s) before
the dial enters the red zone.
Remember: Before the pressure gauge is
pressurised, the pressure equalisation port on
top of the housing must be open.

Automatic Air Vent

Bleeding and Venting Valve

CJC Product Sheet - Accessories

APPLICATION

The CJC Automatic Air Vent is used

to release air from the CJC Filter Housing.
It is controlled by a float-controlled valve
closing by rising oil level (bleeding) and
opening by falling oil level (venting).
Venting can be prevented by using a check
valve.
The CJC Automatic Air Vent reduces the
need for supervision and maintenance of
the CJC Filters even further.
