GROUP ASSIGNMENT

OBJECTIVE OF ASSIGNMENT
The objective of this assessment is to apply a holistic approach in preparation
and completion of assignment by the students
PAPER WEIGHTAGE
This group assignment carries a weightage of 50% of the total marks for this
module.
INSTRUCTIONS
This Assignment consists of:
1. Group Assignment (Report): 30% (Length: 1500 2000
words)

Students are divided into groups, consisting of 4-5 members for each
group.
As a group, you are required to complete this group assignment on the
topic assigned to you / chosen by you.
Each group will be assigned ONE topic from The Malaysian Legal
System as stated below:
1. Historical Background of the Malaysian Legal System
2. Sources of Malaysian Law: Written & Unwritten
3. Separation of Powers
4. The Malaysian Constitution
5. Legislation & Subsidiary Legislation The Legislative Process
6. Statutory Interpretation
7. The Court System Institutions & Personnel of the Law
8. Doctrine of Judicial Precedent or Stare Decisis
9. The Legal Profession in Malaysia
Guidelines for Assignment:
Length: 1500 2000 words
Cover page including full names of group members and student I/D
numbers
Note: A Reference List / Bibliography is essential
Main references:
1. Refer to the Reference List in the MIB
2. The Federal Constitution.
3. You are also allowed to refer to other statutory provisions, judicial
pronouncements, and case law
4. Refer to at least 2 landmark cases on the issue that you have
identified from the given topic. The purpose of these cases is to

acquire an in-depth understanding of the topic and issue that you


have chosen.

2. Oral Presentation: 20%


Each group member will be expected to master the sub-topic
he/she is assigned by the group from the chosen Assignment topic
and conduct an oral presentation. Although the students are
required to work in a group, their presentation skills will be
individually assessed by the lecturer.
Students are encouraged to be creative in their use of multi-media
technology to make their presentations more interesting and
attractive.
