Before You Start

1.1 Relationship Between HedEx Lite and HedEx

HedEx Lite, the single-user version of HedEx, is an equivalent of the HedEx that is installed
on a local computer. HedEx Lite, however, does not need to be installed.
The HedEx that is installed in server mode cannot be replaced by HedEx Lite and need not be
upgraded. In the following sections, HedEx refers to the one that is installed on a local
computer.

Upgrade Processes

There are two upgrade scenarios.

2.1 Scenario 1: Upgrading HedEx

V1.10/V1.11/V100R002C00 to HedEx Lite
V100R003C05SPC100
This scenario involves three tasks.

2.1.1 Task 1Copy HedEx Lite V100R003C05SPC100 to Your

You can obtain HedEx Lite from:

After obtaining HedEx Lite, copy it to your local computer.

2.1.2 Task 2Migrate Data from HedEx to HedEx Lite

V100R003C05SPC100
Data in HedEx refers to libraries, remarks, and favorites. Libraries and remarks can be
migrated to HedEx Lite but favorites cannot.
To migrate data, do as follows:
Step 1 View the library path of HedEx.

Start HedEx.

On the task bar, double-click the HedEx tray icon

to view the path where libraries
are stored on the Library Path tab page, as shown in Figure 2.1.

Step 2 Add the library paths of HedEx to the list of library paths of HedEx Lite.

Start HedEx Lite.

2.

On the task bar, right-click the HedEx Lite icon tray

On the Library Path tab page, click Add to add a library path of HedEx to the list of
library paths of HedEX Lite.

and choose Settings.

To add multiple library paths, repeat steps 23 to add them one by one.

After adding all paths, click OK.

You can add a maximum of 10 library paths, excluding the default path. If there are more than 10
library paths, copy the libraries stored in the excessive paths to the added paths.

It is recommended that you copy the libraries in the default library path (the path marked in red as
shown in Step 1Figure 2.1) of HedEx to the libraries folder in the directory where HedEx Lite is
installed. This prevents any deletion of the libraries stored in the default library path of HedEx when
you uninstall HedEx, and ensures that these libraries are available in HedEx Lite.

In the displayed dialog box asking whether to restart HedEx Lite, click Yes. After HedEx
Lite is restarted, the libraries in HedEx can be used.

Step 3 (Optional) To migrate the remarks contained in the libraries in HedEx to HedEx Lite, do as
follows:
1.

In HedEx, click the Remarks tab. On the Remarks tab page, click Export All to export
all remarks.

2.

In HedEx Lite, click the Remarks tab. On the Remarks tab page, click Import, and
import the remarks that are exported earlier.

2.1.3 Task 3Uninstall HedEx

HedEx and HedEx Lite can co-exist but it is recommended that you uninstall HedEx if you
want to use HedEx Lite.

If the default library path of HedEx (marked in red as shown in 2.1.2 IStep 1Figure 2.1) is
added to the list of library paths of HedEx Lite, do not delete the libraries stored in the default
library path when you uninstall HedEx. A message is displayed when you uninstall HedEx.

Choose Start > All programs > HedEx > Uninstall HedEx to uninstall HedEx.

2.2 Scenario 2: Upgrading HedEx Lite

2.2.1 Automatic Upgrade
Automatic upgrade has no impact on the system, and all data (including libraries, favorites,
and remarks) in HedEx Lite of the source version is migrated to HedEx Lite
V100R003C05SPC100.
To perform automatic upgrade, you must have permission to log in to
http://support.huawei.com as a device user.
To perform automatic upgrade, do as follows:
Step 1 Set software upgrade parameters in HedEx Lite of the source version.
Go to Step 2 if you have already finished the settings.
To set software upgrade parameters, do as follows:
1.

On the HedEx Lite GUI, choose Admin > Upgrade Settings > Set software upgrade
parameters.

2.

Retain the default settings, that is, select Enable auto-reminder for HedEx Lite
software upgrade, and then click Next.

3.

Enter your user name and password for accessing http://support.huawei.com.

4.

If you use a proxy to connect to http://support.huawei.com, select Use a proxy, and enter
the IP address and port number of the proxy, and the user name and password in the
proxy.

5.

Click Check. The system checks

http://support.huawei.com successfully.

6.

If a message indicating connection success is displayed, click Save.

Step 2 On the task bar, right-click the icon tray

Step 3 Click Upgrade Now on the displayed upgrade dialog box. Then follow the display prompts to
upgrade HedEx Lite to V100R003C05SPC100.

2.2.2 Manual Upgrade

If you cannot connect to http://support.huawei.com, you can upgrade HedEx Lite manually.
Ensure that you have obtained HedEx Lite V100R003C05SPC100. Then manually migrate
the data in HedEx Lite of the source version to HedEx Lite V100R003C05SPC100.Note that
only libraries and remarks can be migrated.)
The operations are similar to those described in 2.1"Scenario 1: Upgrading HedEx
V1.10/V1.11/V100R002C00 to HedEx Lite V100R003C05SPC." The general procedure for
upgrading HedEx Lite manually is as follows:
Step 1 Copy HedEx Lite V100R003C05SPC100 to your local computer.
Step 2 Migrate the data including libraries and remarks in HedEx Lite of the source version to
HedEx Lite V100R003C05SPC100. For details, see 2.1.2"Task 2Migrate Data from HedEx
to HedEx Lite V100R003C05SPC."
Step 3 Delete HedEx Lite of the source version.
