ABSTRACT
This study will help to provide an aspect of kinship and marriage in a Punjabi village.
Then the way both kinship and marriage are interrelated and the way the marriage
manipulated to maintain the system of kinship would become evident. As every institution
is changing, the institution of family is also changing. And the major reason for the
change is the change in the marriage patterns. So the present study will help us in
understanding the prevalent marriage patterns in the locale and what are the changes
coming in the institution of marriage.
The study that has gone to be held can be followed for future studies dealing with
marriage considerations. An effort is made to comprehend what is thought to be ideal in
marriage considerations in the contextual framework of social organization. Sociologists
have been interested in the study of marriage and kinship. The study focuses on the main
types of marriages and marriage patterns and ceremonies that are found in our locale
and what are the changes, which are coming in these marriage patterns and ceremonies.
The aim of our research is not only to describe central general aspects of marriage by
outlining the patterns and ceremonies but also I have tried to explain what generates
these patterns. And what are the impacts, which are shown by these marriage patterns
and ceremonies in particular locale. Are these patterns are changed and different from
the previous ones? What are the factors behind these differences?
