Report to the

National Forum of People with Learning Disabilities

Region:
Date:

London
26th and 27th October

What do you want us to tell the Learning

Disability Programme Board about?
What is going well?

I sent the Mazars letter to my local MP. I got a reply.

We have had 2 regional forum meetings since the last
National Forum. 37 reps came from 10 London Boroughs
in July and 19 reps from 8 boroughs in October.
We looked at the Equalities presentation people did not
think that the Equality Act was working for people with a
learning disability.
People said what they think the National Forum should do
about it:
- ask for easy read information
- talk about it make us more aware
- speak to the Government
- Organise a march
- Campaign work with disabled people
- See how we can enforce the act
- Organise a petition
London Association of Directors of Adult Social Services
(ADASS) gave us some money to have a meeting to ask
people about Transforming Care and Co Production. This
meant we could have lunch at our October Forum
meeting and meet for the whole day.

What are your 3 big issues?

Learning Disability England We spoke about this at the

regional forum meeting. People did not think they should
have to pay to be a member. People were worried that
people with a learning disability would not have a voice.
People did think the National Forum should work with
Learning Disability England to make sure that people with
a learning disability had the loudest voice and decided
what decided what the issues are.
Transforming Care Partnerships nearly everyone said
that have not been asked about transforming care in
their area. People said there needs to be more easy read
information about Transforming Care.
National and Regional Forums these are some of the
things people said about what would happen in the
National and Regional Forums lose their funding:
- it will make us feel bad.
- there will be no where to go to take part and give
our opinions.
- the big bosses will not know what is going on for
people with a learning disability.
- we give the information from the regional forum to
our local council at the Partnership Board.
- We would have less information about what is going
on.

Other news:

I went to the I am with Sam launch at the House of

Commons on behalf of the National Forum.
This is a campaign to stop Hate and Mate Crime. The
speakers had some very sad stories.
