Additional Thoughts:
(observed learning style,
S/E) You may now add
some personal
interpretation here.

This seems typical to the

writing development of
other children in the
class.

She appeared to have a

difficult time forming the
letter a, but she wrote the
letter b very quickly and
accurately.

Henrietta

TH- 9/8/16

Math Focus is on
counting dots in a ten
frame.
Henrietta was not counting
aloud when using the ten
frame in math.

Henrietta

M- 9/12
Week 4

LA-Writing- Focus is on
reading and writing
names of classmates.
Henrietta demonstrated
some letter reversals today.
She showed attention and
responsiveness to some of
the verbal chants used to
help children form letters
(i.e. lowercase t goes way
up high where the birdies
fly tweet, tweet).

I need more focused

observation to determine
why Henrietta does not
count aloud with the
class and if this happens
regularly.

The fact that Henrietta

repeats verbal chants
without prompting may
indicate a verbal/auditory
learning modality.

Week 4

Math Focus is on
classifying attributes in
tennis shoes.
Henrietta was identifying
attributes in objects around
the room other than in the
shoes.

Henrietta

T- 9/13
Week 4

LA-Writing: Focus is on
reading and writing student
names.
Part of this activity focuses
on phonic awareness by
pairing a sound with each
letter in a given students
name. Henrietta made the
connection that she has
the /n/ sound in her name
just like Katherine.

Although Henrietta is
grasping some of the
content, she may be
missing part of the
directions when she is
moving around, hence
not focusing only on
shoes.

More evidence in support

of an auditory learning
style emerged today.
She was once again
repeating letter chants
and phrases from the
class shared-reading
Chica Chica Boom Boom.

Henrietta starts some

letters like m and n from
the bottom instead of the
top.

Henrietta

T- 9/13
Week 4

Math Focus is on
counting with five
frames and identifying
attributes.
When placing unifix cubes
on her five frame, she
touches each individually
after her initial count. She
completed all parts of the
activity.
When classifying shoes by
attributes today, Henrietta
noticed that a boot and a
slipper have the same
shape if you cut the tall
part of a boot off.

It appears Henrietta was

on track with activities in
this segment.

color words.
Henrietta sang along with
the R-E-D song spelling
red correctly.

Henrietta

T 9/20
Week 5

Math Focus:
Estimation during
Number Corner.
When shown 30 cubes,
Henrietta estimated that
there were 12.

Henrietta eagerly
participates in all music
related activities. This
supports a
verbal/auditory learning
style.

Henrietta may not yet

have enough experience
to visualize a quantity of
objects greater than
those in the five-ten
range accuratley.

During a repetition of the

five frame activity from
9/13, Henrietta recognized
that when no blocks are
filled in on a five frame, the
correct
term
used
to
describe this is zero.

Henrietta

M 9/26
Week 6

LA Focus: Working in
groups to classify
objects during an
integrated STEM
activity.
Henrietta had some trouble
at first refusing to talk with
group members. By the
end of the activity, she
explained how the group
had sorted their objects.

Henrietta may need

some additional support
at the beginning of group
activities so that she
does not become upset

fact she has internalized

Keep reminding Henrietta

to show her board during
these lessons. She may
be moving on too quickly.
If necessary, arrange for
her to quickly show her

soon as she finishes
writing the letter.

Henrietta was a bit tired

and reluctant to
participate that day.
Keeping this in mind, she
may have been
completing her work
incorrectly to get through
it quickly or to get a
reaction from the
teacher/classmates.

able to build what she

All patterns observed were

built correctly.

modeled all quantities and
was eager to share out

approaches appear to
work well for her.

Week 9

Math:
Focus
on
comparing quantities of
unifix cubes on a ten
frame.

Henrietta seems to be
struggling lately at the
very beginning of the
day. She says that she
goes to bed around
9:00pm. She seems very
tired.

Henrietta is developing
strategies for additive
thinking through her
work with manipulatives.

Henrietta was able to count

filled spaces on a ten frame
and identify how many
more blocks she would
need to fill to make ten.

Henrietta

M 10/24/16

Week 10

LA Reading: Focus on
retelling stories with a
beginning, a middle and an

As predicted, Henrietta
did well using the
manipulatives.

Henritta has good

age.

On the final assessment

Henrietta was able to
increase her quantity of
two to three by adding one
pumpkin seed. She also

Sharing

questions and noticings
about the work of others.

Based on Henriettas
behaviors and
mannerisms, I believe
that she was a little
overtired that morning.
She tends to have a
difficult time in the
morning when she does
not get enough rest.
This is a problem that
she complains about at
least once per week.

This activity goes along

with her tactile learning
strengths.

I will continue to monitor

this situation as Writing
Workshop continues to
determine whether or not
there is a reason that she
