Summary of crime statistics for discussion of public safety in Weinland Park

November 2, 2016
Prepared by Steve Sterrett
The Columbus Division of Police (CPD) divides its patrols into five zones. Weinland Park is in
zone 4. Each zone is divided further into precincts. Weinland Park is in precinct 4. The
boundaries of precinct 4 are Lane Avenue on the north, East Second Avenue on the south, the
CSX railroad tracks on the east and Grandview Heights on the west. Precinct 4 is divided into
five cruiser districts.
Weinland Park is covered by:
Cruiser district 41, bounded by East 11th Avenue on the north, East Second Avenue on the
south, High Street on the west and Summit Street on the east.
Cruiser district 42, bounded by East 11th Avenue on the north, East Second Avenue on the
south, Summit Street on the west and the CSX railroad tracks on the east.
Biweekly crime statistics
CPD crime analysts distribute biweekly crime statistics via email. I receive the statistics and pay
attention to precinct 4 and cruiser districts 41 and 42. I forward the statistics to Georgina
Stevenson and Ahmed Ebady. If others would like to receive them, please let me know.
In general, the great majority of statistics for various crime categories have been normal or below
normal in recent months. Armed robberies of persons spiked in the University District earlier in
the summer. Police focused on this problem, which seems to have abated. Unfortunately,
Weinland Park has had a spike in residential burglaries in October.
