1.0

Introduction
This Method Statement provides the control sequence and methodology that will be used for
the construction of electrical boxes and conduits in order to achieve compliance with the
Contract Specifications and Drawings.

Scope of Work
Installation of electrical boxes and conduits as detailed on Contract Drawings and approved
Shop Drawings encompassing:

The Project Manager will have full authority and overall responsibility to
manage, supervise. He will. Control the works and will have direct
responsibility for ensuring safe working practices and compliance with
regulatory authorities requirements. Co-ordinate with the engineers and the
EMPLOYER REPRESENTATIVE for execution of the Contract Scope of
works. Implement the project quality systems to be the satisfaction of the
project requirements. Review changes and variations to evaluate impact of
those on time and schedule.

Is responsible for ensuring that all works are carried out as per the
specifications, approved shop drawings and Method Statement as per the
manufacturer instructions and coordinated with other works.

QA/QC Engineer

Is responsible for monitoring the works are in fulfilment with the specified
requirements that all quality records related to the works are complete.
He will carry out all the inspections with the EMPLOYER representatives and
notice will be given to EMPLOYER RE PRESNTATIVES within 3 days and
ensure that no work will be executed / covered up without inspection/testing.

3.4

Site Engineer

3.4.1. The site Engineer shall co-ordinate all the site activities according to work schedule,
installation according to the project Specifications, Manufacturer Data Sheet and approved
shop drawings.
3.4.2. Shall liaise with site representatives of employer and contractor and co-ordinate safety
procedures with site supervisors and site foremen.
3.4.3. Shall Co-ordinate and explain the work to be carried out to the Supervisors / Site Foreman.
3.4.4. Ensure the compliance of works with the related approved Quality Control Procedure and coordinate with the CONTRACTOR QA/QC Engineer to advise for the areas to be issued for
inspection.

Site Supervisors and Site Foremen

3.4.5. The project team of experienced Supervisors and Foremen shall ensure the quality of the
installation work carried out, and shall also ensure that it is as per the latest approved
construction shop drawing issued for installation and according to instructions received from
the Site Engineer.
3.4.6. He will provide his subordinates (charge hand and pipe fitters) adequate information to carry
out their duties.
3.4.7. To ensure that he has adequate resources of machinery, labour and materials to carry out all
the activities efficiently and to discuss with the Site Engineer.
3.4.8. To ensure safe and clean working environment to enforce a safe working habit.

Safety Engineer/Officer
3.6.1. The Safety Engineer/Officer/everyone is responsible for implementing the
risk assessment and he will ensure that all control measures and necessary
safety/health precautions are effectively completed prior to start the activity.
He is responsible for carrying out training, monitoring the work activities,
carrying out inspections and reporting to the Principal contractor safety
department and carrying out accident and incident investigations.

4.0

Description of Work

4.1. METHODS

Work shall be carried out by the site staff under the strict supervision and guidance of the concerned
Supervisors / Engineers. Future Metro Engineer shall check the installations as per the approved
inspection test plan.
Request for inspection shall be prepared by Future Metro Engineer and shall be issued to BM for
further inspection with Consultant.
Future Metro Engineer shall co-ordinate with Client / Consultant and arrange for their inspection.
Future Metro Engineer is responsible for getting work inspected and approved by Client /
Consultant.

4.2. INSTALLATION OF CONDUITS & BOXES ON CONCEALED SLAB / COLUMN


4.2.1. Set out the elevation and location of boxes as per approved shop drawing.
4.2.2. Boxes shall be installed as per approved shop drawing.
4.2.3. Ensure that all the boxes are installed in level and rigidly supported by tying with binding wire
along with reinforcement bars.
4.2.4. Boxes shall be protected to avoid concrete sediment to be entering on box openings and blocked
the boxes during casting.
4.2.5. Protection of boxes shall be made by a piece of polystyrene (Thermo col) inside the boxes having
exactly the size of boxes and projecting out of the box. Length of the projection shall be
maintained equal to the level of finished slab / column surface.
4.2.6. Conduits shall be installed embedded in slabs in middle third of slab thickness and at least 25mm
depth will be covered by concrete.
4.2.7. Conduits routing shall be as per the approved shop drawing.
4.2.8. Make sure that all conduits are rigidly supported by binding wires tied along with reinforcement
bars at every 1mtr. Of the slab to avoid movement and damages during concreting.
4.2.9. During conduits installation, make sure that the bends should not exceed two-quarter bends for
every run of conduit.
4.2.10. Raise Inspection Request for installation of Conduits and Boxes by Client / Consultant.
4.2.11. Boxes shall be protected from damages and ingress of mortar / debris until they are ready to
install final faceplates.

4.3. INSTALLATION OF CONDUITS AND BOXES IN BLOCK WALLS

Set out the proper location, elevation and conduit route on the block walls.
Cut the block wall with Hand grinder by Future Metro.
Chip the area with chisel, approximately 50mm to accommodate conduit(s) and boxes(s).
Cement / mortar bed shall be provided to prepare a smooth and uniform groove in the cut portion
of the block.
4.3.5. Protection of boxes shall be made by a piece of polystyrene (Thermo col) inside the boxes having
exactly the size of boxes and projecting out of the box. Length of the projection shall be
maintained equal to the level of finished slab / column surface.
4.3.6. Fix the boxes on the blocks as per the approved shop drawings.

4.3.7. Ensure the level; alignment and plumb of the boxes are correct.
4.3.8. Apply concrete plaster around the box, let the concrete plaster to harden before conduit
installation starts.

4.3.9. Ensure that the boxes are not located at more than 15mm depth with respect to finish wall
surface.
4.3.10. G.I. Trunking section will be provided before the D.B to collect the conduits in case if it exceeded
more than the D.B can take.
4.3.11. Cable drawing facilities shall be provided no greater than 6m apart for straight lengths of conduits
installation and every 2 right angle bends or equivalent sets.
4.3.12. The inside radius of all bends shall exceed 3 times the external diameter of the conduit.
4.3.13. Bend shall be in accordance with current BS7671 formed with helical springs, all means must be
taken in order not to deform the bore and avoiding the wall thinning on the outside of the bend.
4.3.14. Fix conduits in between the nails in block wall conduit routing and tie with binding wire rigidly
to avoid change in conduit layout.
4.3.15. Back boxes shall be confirmed for similarity and or correct level, height with reference to finish
floor by water tune installation to avoid reworks at inspection.
4.3.16. Raise Request for Inspection for location and level of conduits and boxes in block walls by Client
/ Consultant.

5.

Labour, Plant & Material Requirements

5.1.Labour
5.1.1. The Project team consist of experienced Charge Hands and pipe fitters for the
installation work to be carried out under the supervision of supervisors and foremen.
They shall ensure the quality of work done as per the latest approved shop drawing
issued and also according to the instructions received from the site engineer.
5.1.2. The site supervisors and foremen will ensure and arrange adequate resources of
Machinery, Tools and Materials to carry out all the activities efficiently.

Following indicative hand tools list shall be used for the installation works.

Supervision Arrangements
All the electrical activity shall be carried out under the supervision of the experienced
supervisors. Supervisors shall be assisted by the foreman, Charge-hand and electricians.

7.

Health & Safety Requirements

7.1 All staff will have a safety induction carried out by the contractor before commencing
any activities on site.
7.2 Prior to commencing any activity, labour force shall receive a tool box talk on the project
site safety regulations from the subcontractor safety officer on a weekly basis on topics
appropriate to the activities being undertaken. A Method statement briefing will be given
to all staff before the commencement of the work and a record kept.
7.3 Any process that is adopted that may have particular safety risk will be assessed and
addressed as required.
7.4 All activities will be subject to a risk assessment by the subcontractor safety officer
before the commencement of work which will be forwarded to the contractor safety
department for approval. Appropriate measures will be taken following the R/A to
minimize the risks identified.
7.5 Ensure only trained persons shall operate the power tools.
7.6 Ensure all concerned personals shall use PPE and all other items as required and full
specifications of equipment to be used including CE or BSI standard will be provided.
7.7 Ensure adequate lighting and adequate space is provided in the working area at night
time.
7.8 Ensure that in all areas where there is a risk of falling from height preventative measures
will be taken and identify them.
7.9 Ensure service shaft opening are provided with barricade, tape, safety nets.

8.1.

Environmental Requirements
Any waste generated due to above work shall be segregated and disposed off according
to the Site / and statutory Norms. Any chemical/cleaner used for the job will be kept in a
container to avoid spillage on the ground.

9.

Security Arrangements
9.1. Store Keeper shall ensure the proper storage and security of materials with coordination of main contractor.

10. Quality Control Arrangements (Testing, Inspections & Records)


10.1. After installation of the conduits, ensure that the location and dimensions are verified
as per drawing.
10.2. Carryout visual inspection for compliance to drawing.
10.3. In case if it is unsatisfactory, rectify before concrete pour.
10.4. After completion the same shall be raised for consultants inspection
