Social Concern Project_ Guidelines for the Faculty Mentors

1. Faculty mentor to brief the students about service learning and how it is different from social
service. Ample amount of discussion on what kind of organizations can be partnered and
what different types of projects can be pursued should be done.
2. Faculty mentor to finalise the partner organization and project topic well in time and ensure
that the partner organization has agreed to certify the student.
3. Faculty mentor to ensure that the following time lines has to be adhered to;
Students to finalise the Organisation for SCP & obtain faculty mentor approval

for the same.

Students to submit the draft report to the faculty mentors

18-Aug-16

Students to submit their final SCP report to their faculty mentors

20 to 24 Aug 2016

Evaluation of SCP to happen as per HOS direction

All valuation to be consolidated by HOS and submitted to the COE

4. Faculty mentor must check the Log book maintained by the student from time to time (at least
once a week, during the mentoring session). Frequent discussion with the Supervisor at the
partner organisation is advisable.

5. Evaluation Procedure:

The SCP being a 1 credit course shall have a maximum score of 50, of which 50% of the
marks shall be awarded by the respective mentor guides and remaining 50% marks shall be
awarded based on independent evaluation of the project report as decided by the Head of
specialisation.

The assessment of the Project Report would be based on the following parameters;

6. The onus of choosing an organization is on the students which have to be approved by the
mentors. Students should take up individual projects. But however if the nature of the project
requires more students, then the project can be pursued jointly by the students if approved by
the Mentor and the HOS concerned.
7. Irrespective of the project being done jointly or severally, the reporting by student has to
happen independently.
8. Probable Partners for SCP: Students can approach following organisations for SCP with
Mentors facilitating the choice

NGOs/ SDOs/ Old-age homes/ Orphanages

Corporates running large CSR projects/ Social Entrepreneurs

CU CSA sponsored projects/ Organizations involved in Social research

Science museum or children's / vocational learning centres community planetariums

Hospitals, Prevention/ Rehabilitation centres

9. The students shall approach the organizations and would decide on managerial/ business
related problems faced by those organizations and finalize their project topics. Indicative
topics for SCP can be;

Preparation of T & D modules/ Job Description

Helping to overcome / avoid Legal Issues

Developing a funding solution/ helping in cost optimisation

Designing Marketing campaigns/Publicity

Helping Micro finance institutions in Recovery & Collection

Helping in ERP Implementation/ establishing a supply chain system

Helping in Office management (Conduct meeting & MOM)

Strategy development Mission & Vision

Helping in developing Service quality / operation & maintenance of in


hospitals/banks

10. Faculty mentor should ensure that the Social Concern Project report has to be prepared as per
the format circulated for the same. (Softbound, 30 to 40 pages, Times new roman 12, headlines
14, for other details of chapters etc. please refer the format circulated.)
11. The Social Concern Project report should also include the TWO Evaluation Sheets (as adopted
for SIP) as well.
