Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed:

SS3G1 The student will locate major topographical features.

a. Identify major rivers of the United States of America: Mississippi, Ohio, Rio Grande, Colorado, Hudson.
b. Identify major mountain ranges of the United States of America: Appalachian, Rocky.
c. Locate the Equator, Prime Meridian, and lines of latitude and longitude on a globe.
d. Locate Greece on a world map.
Brief Description of Learning Experience:
By introducing the standard students will have watched my audio file the day before. It will be refreshing the students mind what
a river and mountain is. Then I will tell them that tomorrow will be to identify the standard and know everything about it. When
the students get to class the next day I will review my podcast with them. I will then have a map of the US. We will identify the
major rivers and mountains together. Then the students will go to the library. They will create a audio file using Audacity
describing where the major mountains and rivers are. The audience is very broad. I will be addressing each student by going back
and looking at their audio file to make sure they understand it correctly.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking:
Loti level 4a. The students are applying what they learned to the audio file by recording where the major rivers and
mountains are located. They then will share it with others on creative commons.
Importance of technology:
Multimedia is critical for this project because it helps students retain the information of where the rivers and mountains are
located because they verbally will be describing where it is it. So they will be saying that information out loud and then they will
play the information back to them. Its a fun repetitive way to learn. This project could be done without multimedia but the
students would be losing the loti level because they would not be sharing it with audience and they would not be able to apply it
to real world. Students will be adding music from incredibox and sharing it to creative common
Inspiration (optional):

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet safety and student
privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how youd minimize risks to
students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy.
Students could go on sites that they should not be on and also sharing their work onto creative commons. How I would minimize
the risk of internet safety and student privacy. I would send home a letter to each parent explaining what we were doing, have
them sign the paper saying its ok for the child to create audio file and share it with others on creative commons. When sharing
the work on creative commons I would have the students create a fake name.
