1) Both: Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. [Hoa] Welcome to group 3s project
on a contemporary hot topic: [Uyen] SOIL AND WATER POLLUTION IN TUY
HOA CITY.
2) [Uyen] Here is the overall content of our presentation. We will talk about the
CAUSES and CONSEQUENCES of SOIL POLLUTION and WATER
POLLUTION first. Then we will put forward two solutions for each, and three
common solutions for both.
3) [Hoa] It is common knowledge that environmental pollution is remarkably altering
every Earth inhabitants life. Tuy Hoa citizens are no exception. Lets look at this
problem in the land of Yellow Flower on Green Grass from a foreign tourists view
[Video 1]
[Uyen]: The foreigner interviewed felt rather discouraged by our dirty neighborhood.
What do you think it indicates?
[Hoa]: Sure enough, its high time we investigated this problem thoroughly.
[Uyen]: Absolutely. First of all, lets look into the contamination of soil [music]
4) [Uyen] There are three main causes to this matter:
a) Firstly, the misuse of chemicals in most rice fields in Ward 9 and Ngoc Lang
flower village enables harmful substances to penetrate into the agricultural land
b) The second reason is the burying of large amounts of garbage, often found
along Le Duan Street
c) Finally, there are lacking-awareness residents littering everywhere, which
contributes to the degradation of soil
5) For all of these, the impacts are rather serious:
a) These green arrows point to the effects on peoples health, which are headache
fatigue, cardio-vascular illness, and nausea
b) Next is the decrease in soil fertility, which may reduce crop productivity or
even turn the land into unusable
c) Besides, the absorption of water in roots can be disrupted, which interferes
with the development, or even existence, of trees
d) Lastly, huge piles of rubbish in the middle of a beautiful city can surely prevent
tourists, like the earlier one, from ever returning there again.
6) [Hoa] Now, lets move onto our second matter: the contamination of water

Here are the primary causes for this not-less-alarming problem:

a) First of all, the industrial waste and untreated sewage from factories such as
Pymepharco and Saigon Beer are threatening the purity of water.
b) Secondly, water sources can quickly absorb the poisonous plant-protecting
chemicals via the fields nearby.
c) The third cause is the practice of electric and dynamite fishing along Tuy Hoa
beach
d) Finally, pollution comes from the dead ducks farmers frequently throw away
on the rivers.
7) Thus, the effects of polluted water on our ecosystem are almost fatal:
a) First is a massive loss of lives for many underwater species and threatens the
biodiversity.
b) Then, there is severe damage to peoples health: lots of food poisoning cases
each year and external allergy
c) After all, these smelly and black water surfaces turn some sights of our city
into really disgusting.
[Hoa] Here is our summary diagram. The pink boxes demonstrate the causes, and
the blue ones the consequences.
Hoa: Whats your general impression on this?
Uyen: Hmmm Seems serious. Obviously enough, we must take steps to tackle
this issue, right from this minute.
Hoa: Sounds right. Lets discuss some practical measures together.
8) [Hoa] First of all, well examine solutions to land problems:
a) [Uyen] We should replace chemical fertilizers with organic ones to enrich the
soils nutrients.
b) [Hoa] In fact, the use of chemicals should be minimized, or even avoided if
possible
9) [Hoa] Then we have methods of redressing water pollution:
a) [Uyen] Dynamite fishing must be heavily fined, or even totally banned
b) [Hoa] A safe sewage treatment process must be worked out and strictly applied
in all industrial facilities.
[Uyen] There are, however, actions coming from the authority that can solve both,
which are:
a) [Uyen] Including activities or lessons about environmental preservation in the
curriculum.
b) [Hoa] Passing and enforcing strict laws on protecting our surrounding.
c) [Hoa] Funding and promoting environmental projects

10)[Hoa] Various and practical as they seem, these suggestions all aim at a single but
crucial thing, which is also the key idea behind all solutions ever offered.
[Uyen] Looks significant. Let me guess Is it human beings awareness?
[Hoa] Exactly! Even the most practical solutions will become useless without
someone willing to get up and take action. It is our lack of awareness that
originated this serious problem, and it is only our fully-developed awareness that
can combat it.
[Uyen] Sadly, Tuy Hoa inhabitants dont seem to be fully alarmed at this issue
[Hoa] Yeah Lets see the attitude of the dustmen in our city towards the
problem [Video 2] You see, even the cleaners who work with the dirt everyday
dont realize its harm!
[Uyen] There must be something done. Hmmm to my mind, the crucial change
must come from us - the young, enthusiastic and knowledgable generation.
[Hoa] I cant agree more. Lets see what a ten-year-old thinks about this [Video 3]
[Uyen] Good signs, arent they? This girl was already aware of the danger and
willing to take a step.
[Hoa] Dear audience, by this time, what have you gained in your knowledge?
[Hoang Nhi answers]
[Uyen] Thanks for your answer. We totally agree with you [music]
[Hoa] If everyone could think the same, imagine how better a place this world
will turn into. No more destruction, no more diseases, no more deaths.
[Uyen] That brilliant picture isnt out of reach at all! Even when youre waiting till
you get home to put a litter in a bin, it is protecting our environment! In a word,
think global, act local.
[Hoa] From the bottom of our heart, we sincerely hope that after attending our
lecture, you will find something useful, and the next time you see pollution, you
will not hesitate to do the right thing. Right now, lets all join hands to rescue this
threatened planet, and maintain our childrens future.
