BRIEF CONTEXT/PERSPECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY

Geotechnical Engineering is one of the major courses in the civil engineering

curriculum in De La Salle University. For the first term, third year students taking up
LBYCVG1, which is the laboratory component of GEONG1, are conducting experiments on
geotechnical testing. It is not enough to do experiments just inside the campus or
laboratory. It is better to experience the geotechnical testing in the field. As a result, a field
trip is one way of letting the civil engineering students experience it firsthand.
During the LBYCVG1 Field Trip, the students will be visiting different sites in order to
gain knowledge and awareness for the course. Having a field trip like this will not only help
the civil engineering students see what the road ahead looks like, but also aid them in
future laboratory experiences.
The Civil Engineering Society would like to aid the civil engineering students to gain
more knowledge and awareness in the concepts of geotechnical engineering because it is
a very important in regards to civil engineering. As future civil engineers, we must gain
firsthand experiences in the important fields in our future profession. Having site visits like
this one will surely help develop the students in that regard.
III.

OBJECTIVES
1. To raise awareness among the 113 CIV students about the importance of the
activities done in the laboratory.
2. To appreciate the importance of geotechnical engineering in regards to other civil
engineering concepts.
3. To further increase the students knowledge about the concepts of geotechnical
engineering.
