How Knowledge changed:


From the Initial Map to Final Map
I now have a much clearer understanding of the relationships
between Instructional Design theories, models and strategies.
An instructional theory is a theory that provides guidance on
how to assist people to learn and develop (Reigeluth, 1999).
Models represent the broadest level of instructional practices
and present a philosophical orientation to instruction.
Models are used to select and structure teaching strategies,
methods, skills, and student activities for a particular
instructional emphasis.

From the Initial Map to Final Map
Instructional models are related to theories about how we learn.
Examples include: behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, and
connectivism.
Within each model several strategies can be used. Strategies
determine the approach a teacher may take to achieve learning
objectives. Strategies can be classed as direct, indirect,
interactive, experiential, or independent. (Keesee, G., 2014).
King, Sattler-Weber and King (2005) postulated that instructional
strategies provide the general direction for instruction and the
achievement of the learning outcomes set by both the instructor
and by the learner

Four (4) Factors influencing second diagram


1. Reading course material and reviewing other sources of
information on related topics
2. Greater appreciation of the relationship between ID
theories, models and strategies
3. Discussions with group members on the Instructional
Outcomes and Underlying Theories and Instructional
approaches.
4. Creation of my own model (amended Kemp Model) was
very instrumental in bringing about a greater depth of
understanding of the course material

Reflections on Changes in Knowledge


Changes in my knowledge were brought about by not only reading
course material, but a wide range influences, including researching
and reviewing other sources of information online.
One of the key aspects in my learning experience was the impact of
discussions with my peers. Even when there were different views on
the material, the exchange of information and opinions was very
beneficial in creating a better understanding of the course.
I would even say that differences in understanding among my
colleagues were even more beneficial as it lead me to do further
research and reflection on various topics and concepts which
resulted in a deeper understanding of the material.
