Article Summary of Occupational Injuries to Sleepiness in Indian Traditional Industries
Scientist realized that the society, specifically workers, are more prone to accidents and
injuries in working industries due to lack of sleep. They mainly focus on the manufacturers in
India because it is known for one of the highest number of occupational injuries in 2007. It talks
about on how a workers performance can affect physically, psychologically and mentally. In this
study, scientists want to experiment on how work and sleep related to each other.
Lack of sleep can affect a worker physically, psychologically and mentally. Information
processing is delayed, their performance is somewhat slower and they are having delayed
response from specific tasks than good sleepers. Workers can become more stressed and more
likely to become dissatisfied to the task given. Researchers also found out that they tend to fall
asleep during work hours in which leads to occupational injuries. In addition, not having enough
sleep can lead to unhealthy lifestyle. Conditions and healthy lifestyle are commonly affected
specifically in working industries.
Furthermore, scientist provided different questionnaires to the workers from two different
districts, Varanasi and Mirzapur, that are related to the study. Researchers investigated different
aspects of how workers sleep, the number of hours they have slept, difficulty in waking up in the
morning and other symptoms that can be related to occupational injuries. Workers were also
questioned about their demographics as well as their healthy lifestyle. With these questionnaires,
researchers could provide information that will help and support their study.

Henceforth, the outcomes were predictable with the past studies. Researchers discovered
that there is a strong relation between Difficulty Initiating Sleep (DIS) and occurrence of
occupational injuries. The result of this study showed gender differences in the relationship
between sleep habits and occurrence of injuries, though females report sleep problems more
often than males about various sleep problems (Jaiswal, 260). In this experiment, it
demonstrates that sleeping problems is significantly associated with occupational injuries in
working industry in India.
In conclusion, the data showed that lack of sleep and sleeping difficulties are linked
together with occupational injuries physically, psychologically and mentally. With the
questionnaires that were given to the workers, researchers were able to discover and provide
information regarding with their experiment. Researchers suggested that sleeping during break
time and lessening of work stress can be helpful strategy that can help prevent work related
injuries.
